Mitch vows to end unemployment benefits.

OR is expecting 25% unemployment through the end of the year. And no full recovery until 2024. We won't be alone. And Mitch is bitching over some breadcrumbs of support. 'Murica.

Yea. I had just read that if the unemployment numbers are high as we enter the presidential election, Trump will be trounced. No president has even won an election with a poor economy.

FDR did ('re-elected'). Trump is no FDR.

A president that takes it from 5% to 15% is in deep shit.
We hope. How many unemployed Trumpists will believe that it's actually the democrats fault? And, in 2021 we will have the most amazing economy, it will come right back - even better than before. And China. And....
Trump an his republican lackeys are already blowing lies out of their asses like there's no tomorrow.

  1. Unemployment is Payment VS Work.
  2. Basic Income is Payment plus Work.
Even if they only use it to get us through this crisis, payment regardless of circumstance is easier to manage and more healthy for the economy.

OTOH, Republicans are probably doing this thinking COVID is a hoax or somehow "over" and we "need" to throw people off safety nets altogether. Which case !@#$ McConnell.

I don't know how this will play out for Trump and the Republican party. Another 2.3m Americans filed for unemployment just last week. Many of those jobs aren't coming back.

It's simple
With republican run states opening up and Democratic run states more cautious he is trying to force the hand of Blue states to open up by creating chaos and disorder.
The goal is to generate economic numbers to bolster Trumps campaign.

If cases increase as a result...then just blame democrat heavy areas as responsible due to interstate travel.

Well, if God didn't intend for the little people to be fucked he wouldn't have made it so easy. Anybody who comes out ahead from being unemployed right now was earning shit money in the first place.

GOPers never wanted to give any additional benefits to the unemployed to begin with.

Their MO is to give corporations as much money as possible. $3 trillion was forked over with out a second to lose... and no oversight.

Socialism, with tax payer money, for corporations that do not even pay taxes is what Conservatives believe in.

Most people around here that have applied for UC still haven't received any money yet.

What state?
Do you know anyone personally who has not received and what their age and profession is?
Friend and I were talking about this the other day.

Just about everyone we know that was entitled to it received it pretty quickly and for the most part a lot people around here are still working.
For us, so far its been pretty hard connecting the dots of talk about "People not receiving unemployment" and actual people not receiving unemployment.
The only person I know who has not received it (and complaining loudly about it) is a 70+ year old retiree who does seasonal work. He doesn't need to work, he has SS benefits, 401kl AND a pension and plenty of cash. He just doesn't like his wife and uses the PT job to get out the house and socialize.
I curious if they are doing any sort of analysis on cases to prioritize them.

Well, this is good to know. My current appointment ends in June, and current best prospect puts me in an unemployment gap, likely until October 1st.

Glad to know that Mitch is looking out for people in this country.

(I already wasn't sure what payments would like for me, with how many people have been applying lately, and the political need to make sure billiioaires get the vast share of federal welfare first and foremost)

I assume his SS and PT job still has income under 75K? I think that was the cutoff.

Correct me if I'm mistaken pls. I'm thinking what's so weird about that is the fact that both Clinton and Obama left the nation's economy in fairly good shape upon leaving office yet the Dem candidates who followed in their footsteps lost their bids.

CT, below 65 (therefore no Medicare) self employed in two separate businesses, both completely shut down. A client and a friend for several decades, he has told me he knows of at least a dozen people in his situation, about half not self-employed (self-employed UC started in late April-in theory).
