I know of some religions that have some pretty far out beliefs, typically those against such beliefs have said we should turn the area they inhabit the most into glass. I wonder if they sentiment holds for those who are religious but are closer to home?

The states who have laws against this aren't making it better. People could be giving money to a business who are against them and they are giving their hard earned money to people who are racists and oppose them. This sounds wrong to me and is the government helping the racists.

I doubt many business owners will go to Mississippi. Most business owners aren't racist. They want to make money and won't do something stupid like this which will result in them losing money. They alienate the group they discriminate against and other customers who are against this along with potential boycotts.

You guys, southern conservative Christians are a minority and need special protected status just like African Americans, women, or homosexuals. These special flowers need legal protection. Their faith could be blown a way in an instant by an atheist entering their business. Their marriages could end in divorce if forced to serve gays. It's all they can do not to shoot unarmed teens due to the constant fear and oppression they suffer from when forced to not oppress others.

Agree but also think they should be required to post a prominent sign stating their policy. No shirt, no shoes, no heterosexual, no service. If they're willing to publicly own their bigotry then they can keep it.

I can't say I'm surprised. In a country with states like Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Kansas, somehow Mississippi regularly ends up outdoing those others for most fucked up state. This is the state afterall where 46% of the GOP think interracial marriage should be banned.

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen someone post in P&N. Because we live in a free country we absolutely can and should say something when people have horrible viewpoints. As I find myself so often having to explain to the conservative members of this board, the First Amendment does not protect you from the scorn and disdain of others that comes from how you choose to exercise that right.

On a more serious note, when Arizona tried this they backed down due to the unintended consequences. Their governor refused to sign it.

I think this is going to hurt national republicans in the next election. The more state legislatures pass these horrific laws the more independents and Dems will be motivated to get out and vote during what is historically a low turn out election.
