Someday... just someday... the people always lecturing us about the necessity of limited govt are going to agree that the govt should be held accountable when it shoots and kills a black man by accident.
In this particular incident I more blame the people in charge of the department this cop works for. They need to be held accountable. If you're not going to properly train and vet your officers, at a bare minimum you needed to be bared from working in law enforcement for life.

Something I've long pushed for. Terminate their certification and keep a national database so they can't get hired on somewhere else.

Holy F... will this never end???
Fox News focusing only on the unrest and protest. I guess if you’re black you are not allowed to protest and show anger??? You must be white and MEGA to have the privilege to protest. So... this was a mistake by law enforcement? Reminds me of the surgeon that removed a kidney instead of the appendix. Oops, sorry bout that fella.
End ,probably not, greatly diminished yes, just make intelligence a protected class.

this comment says it best

"DO you want cops who are average, or do you want cops that CAN and DO understand the US Constitution? "

Unfortunately the woke liberal circular firing squad will shoot it down before that happens.

You're trying to argue with your neighbor's dog barking incessantly because it wants back inside it's masters house.

Save yourself the time and trouble.

he also had misdemeanor marijuana possession charge from last summer...

accidental discharge
Let me play white supremacist cop pretending to be an attorney for just a second.

It does say right there on the warrant, "Execute in Minnesota only."

Good shoot, folks.

I wasn't gonna say it, but I noticed that too. 😛 😵
I noticed that too, but managed to refrain from any comment.

Anyway, tragic situation for the family of the victim, obviously, but also for the officer involved if it was a mistake, as it appears. I know, yes, the officer has a responsibility to respond appropriately, but one moment of panic or whatever it was has pretty much ruined her life. In the climate we have today (not saying it is wrong), I cant imagine she will get off without at least being charged with manslaughter.

Of course we have the obligatory vandalism and rioting to go along with the peaceful protests, so we have the National Guard called out again, and a 7 pm curfew.

Is there a possibility of a federal training program police could be required to take and be certified (yearly) in order to be an police officer? By possible I mean something that would stand up to state's rights claims or other legal push back?

Well, there'd be an entire political party that controls far more than their fair proportional share of state and federal power who would accuse that training program of socialism and hating America, so there's that.

That's expected but that's because Republican politicians hate America. Everyone else though, wants to make America better.

I think a federally controlled and regulated standardized training requirement that's based on human irrationality and behavior would be a good thing. Add to that a federal database of police officers and their record/discipline/incidents would be a good thing for all of us.

That's EXACTLY what Fox News is telling their people. White people are allowed to violently protest over a lie according to Fox and Ron Johnson but they will equate that to black people fighting for their very right to exist.

Yea, just saw the video and the twitter statement above is correct.

I don't think you can call it an "accident" to shoot someone with a gun instead of a taser though. More like negligent homicide. The chief of police explained that the handgun is holstered on the dominant side and the taser on the other side. I understand this, since you need the most control in the hand with the gun. OTOH, it seems like in a split second situation, it would make it more reflexive to draw the gun instead of the taser. Obviously, that is not excuse, as the officer has the responsibility to use the correct amount of force.

Humans make mistakes. You give them deadly force, and they will fuck it up.

Another reason why the continued existence of the 2A has a death toll. Because we have to keep our citizens armed, our police armed, and our people in graves.

Unrelated:

The main problem of the dozens of problems with police in America is too many of them are allowed to resign and walk away when they should be arrested and severely punished.
We seriously have a multi-tiered society and until we get angry enough to revolt against our government, it will not change.

pretty good article about cops pulling their guns when they thought they were reaching for the taser, it boils down to a lack of training and it happens surprisingly frequently.

Thats nice and horse shit.
Tazers do not handle anything like a gun. No kick back, the sight picture is totally different, and you can only shoot the tazer once.

Yea, but if you feel the kickback or shoot even once, it is already too late. One thing that might decrease the problem is to require pistols to have a safety. If one had to click off the safety before firing a pistol, it would seem that would greatly decrease the chance of accidental or mistaken discharge.
