If you think that we should have a military and you are opposed to recruitment, are you in favor of a draft to fill the ranks?

I would like to know this as well. I recently joined the Navy myself, and I would love to see mandatory service time. Would make people think twice about who they're electing to lead their armed forces.

My guess is they either get annoyed at the consistent phone calling or they're afraid that there kids will be talked into joining somehow. It would be nice to hear their response.

I'm sorry but who in this thread so far has said they were against military recruitment? Unwanted phone calls on the line that I pay for is my issue. When the guvment starts paying for that bill they can call all they want. Until then, don't call my house.

I am all for recruitment drives and job fairs etc. I think every high school in America should make it mandatory to sit through an assembly for an hour or two and allow the recruiters to give their "pitch" as it were. Would that be an acceptable solution to putting some sort of limits on recruiter/telemarketing?

Didn't say you were against recreuitment. Just wondered how you thought they could make their recruitment goals when you don't allow them to talk to your kids. Was it because you thought your 18 year old wasn't intelligent enough to make up his own mind or was it because you were annoyed about getting phone calls, or was it something else I hadn't though of.

"Unwanted phone calls on the line that I pay for is my issue. When the guvment starts paying for that bill they can call all they want. Until then, don't call my house."

Unless they're calling your cell phone, you don't pay for recieved calls, only calls made when using a land line. So if that's your beef, then they should be allowed to call your home phone number.

Guy, you are missing the point. They are solicitors. This is my phone line. I pay for it. I added my number to the DNCL. I relish my privacy and hate unwanted phone calls. That is my point. I could care less who is on the other end be it a recruiter, salesman, telemarketer... don't call my house. If any of my kids want to pick up the bill for a second phone line, they can deal with it however they wish. I hope that clears it up.

Tell that to Halliburton.

DONT BELIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ BBond....so yeah BBond explain to me....what does haiburton have to do with it?

Yeah, right, Halliburton is second in line only to Mother Theresa.

Tylaner suggested that anyone who believes this war is bringing profit to the USA has "a few screws loose."

Halliburton is profiting from this war. They have been accused of overcharging for meals and services never delivered as well as bribery and indeed have been found to be overcharging U.S. taxpayers who are funding this excercise in futility -- yet the military decided to let them keep the money they cheated us out of. ;)

Clearly, someone in the USA is profiting from this invasion.

Read all about it. :)

Halliburton Watch

well, im getting paid "really, really, good money" to go over there, and i can underatnd why they pay so much becuase of the condtion over there, but i understand fully what to company is doing over there from my interviews and talking with comany officals, pretty much supply logistal and security jobs for the military so they dont have to use personael of thier won to do those jobs.....

of course they are profiting, since when does a compnay exist not to make a profit....unless its in a communist country, but thats what you reallt want right?

What, have you so ill-prepared your daughter for adult life that she can't resist the charms of a man in uniform? Or are you worried that your child might be more patriotic than you are and sees it as service to the country rather than being "cannon fodder" ? When people like you are involved I actually trust the children to know what's better for themselves than you do, parents taking rash actions like yours often cause their children to act precisely opposite to what you would wish just because they know it would hack you off. I don't think anyone should join the military who doesn't wish to, but you acting in this fashion leads me to believe you're a sad, scared little man. It would be sweet irony indeed if your daughter joined the service and wound up winning the Medal of Honor or Distinguished Service Cross.

i am gonna be dick when people bash the miltiary people caqn say they support it all they want..... but you can see it underwritten in all thier posts that all they want to do is undermind the mission, and that gets undere my skin.... so....everyone feels the need to get up bush's a$$ cause he gets under the skin, and in the proccess of doing that, 20,000 other posts come up and it ends up like the 60's 70's and military bashing... and im gonna return the fire with my right to attack back...

ther eis nothing wrong witha recruiter talking to a HS kid, he cant sign anything unless his parents approve anyway....at least nutil he isn't a minor anyway....

and who are oyu to decide who your child talks to for career advancement? gonna make em "work on the farm"? geez.... you guys attacking anything with bush or military related, even if it has to do with rights that you guys have been sticking up for for 50 + years..... its just funny.... keep diggin your hole guys

Guy, I read your point loud and clear. But, what your saying now is not the point the thread was started on. You are not singling out the recruiters where as the legislation referred to, is singling out the recruiters. there's a difference. I sympathize with your position, but not the position this thread was started on.

The USA is one of the few first world countries that actively solicits children for military service. Making children (people under the age of 18, or possibly 21) into soldiers ("child soldiers") is actually a violation of international law.

You have the right to call it that. And for the record, I agree (even as a liberal) that there are those that attack the military under the current situation (and some of them are in this thread). However, don't confuse, the loud with the majority. I'm very proud of the performance of our military over there. They have done very well with a very difficult mission. Doesn't mean I have to agree with the president, though and I don't consider myself a pu$$y. Just keep that in mind.

no its not, its completly voulntary, and you can only join under 18 if you will be 18 when your intal entry training is over...i wished i joined so youg, i would be pulling retirement at age 38, and still be working in the civilian world....double paychecks....

really?? this is off topic, but that's insanely young to get retirement. What % of your pay do you get at the age for retirement?

Liberals support 13 year olds having abortions without parental notification, yet they want to pass legislation that would prevent military recruiters from contacting students unless their parents "opt-in".

Typical nonsense and hypocrisy from the left.

The USA is one of the few first world countries that actively solicits children for military service. Making children (people under the age of 18, or possibly 21) into soldiers ("child soldiers") is actually a violation of international law.

no its not, its completly voulntary, and you can only join under 18 if you will be 18 when your intal entry training is over...i wished i joined so youg, i would be pulling retirement at age 38, and still be working in the civilian world....double paychecks....

really?? this is off topic, but that's insanely young to get retirement. What % of your pay do you get at the age for retirement?

75% for the REST OF YOUR LIFE

20 years of active duty service.... age old us military tradition....

doesnt matter how old you are, its just about yrs of service, so people who want to go career take advantage of joing when 17 (with parental approve) to start intital traing, cause that takes AT LEAST 6 months, can take up to 2 yrs, before your fit to serve in your designated job...

you have to have a HS diploma or GED to serve....

you can join before that, called split op...you go to basic traing in between your junior and senior yr of HS, and do your AIT, or job traing after that, this is minaly for National gurad and reserve, so they can train during summers, and stil lgo to college right on time after HS...

Sweet retirement. Good deal when you can move onto a new job after that. Plus you get all the military benefits like the VA hospital, right?
