In the engineering computer lab today there were 5-6 guys behind me, commenting on some video evidently of a woman. I was actually pretty shocked at how much more misogynistic than usual they were being, shouting things like "She sticks her tongue out because she likes to swallow" and "What a fucking slut" and etc for several minutes straight, with at least a couple women easily within earshot. At least it's comforting to know that this is some widespread internet phenomenon rather than men attacking some random chick on a Facebook video.

I disagree. Her voice is much, much worse than your average karaoke singer. Probably the worst voice in the history of female pop singers. Everytime I hear her talk it sounds like she just finished deep-throating a prickly cactus.

Miley was horrible - completely embarrassing display of someone trying way too hard for attention. Of course our media eats this crap up for more viewers / hits.

She had great parents. What happened is the same thing that happens to all child stars: They're never told no. Her parents couldn't tell her no because she has all the money. Her co-workers can't tell her no because they wouldn't be employed without her. To this day, there is nobody telling her "don't do this" or "don't do that"...Miley does whatever pops into her head, and she's surrounded by yes-men whose paychecks depend on them supporting her.

Agree with the first sentence. However, that song you linked to is f**king terrible. If you think this country is going down the drain because people don't listen to music like that, you're out of touch with reality.

Sorry, but it is the parents' responsibility to instill proper values at a young age and reinforce them throughout childhood and early adulthood. My guess is they went the lazy religious route of God says this is bad and God says this is good instead of explaining why things are good and bad. Kid grows up, doesn't have a solid moral foundation and all the things you listed take their toll.
 
I think she had potential but was too dumb, spoiled, and self-centered to realize it.
She could have had a 60 year career given such an early start. At this rate she'll be a joke in one year and completely forgotten by 2020.

Meanwhile Anne Hathaway is kicking ass and taking names.

If you look historically, Billy Ray Cyrus was considered a good parent. He was very protective and was alway seen as instilling good values. The problem comes in when the child becomes more powerful than the parent, as is what happened here. Justin Bieber is the same way.
