You dumbasses get your panties in a wad if your memory usage goes over 25%, but that is a completely worthless point to argue since it is there to be used. I never restart my computer and constantly play games on it with zero problems.

Here's a real complaint, it's XP with a more flashy interface, WHY do we need Vista again? WHY couldn't have Microsoft made Aero & DX10 work in XP? I understand that doesn't lead to any money so there's little point. But Vista doesn't do anything new, I dual boot and honestly haven't gone into Vista for ages. I'm still wondering why I need Vista, and ultimately the interface grew old to me pretty quick.

The only reason I boot to Vista anymore is to play one game I can't get t run in my XP (Star Wars Republic Commando)

I don't dislike Vista, I just don't see the reason it exists, maybe in a year or 2 when we start seeing more Vista software I will get it, but as it stands I'm not sold on the interface and DX10 is about as worthless as a Physics card.

Probably no more than 10% of PCs in use have 2GB RAM. I know at my company it's more like 2%.

Good point. My Vista installation uses about 700mb of ram, which is fine by me. It seems to be logical though that a new generation OS would run on new generation hardware, i.e. systems with more than 512mb of RAM.

Thank you for actually voicing a valid complaint. I don't necessarily agree with you, but this is refreshing since most responses are usually "Vista sucks cause its a POS". Recursion: See Recursion.

Vista has features that make it more user friendly to people who have no clue, and even some features that make things easier for me as an advanced user. I'm not saying I have an opinion either way about upgrading it in the workplace, but honestly upgrading to a new OS in an office environment seems like a bad idea all the way around for at least a few years. There is simply too much code to fully debug it, and this is through no fault of Microsoft because it happens in OS/X and Linux as well. The difference is more people use a Microsoft OS so the flaws are exposed more rapidly. My point is Vista seems to have a place among home users who are willing to test the waters and learn the new features and interface, not that it is very complicated or anything but it's still different. Is it necessary? Well of course not. Is XP necessary over Windows 2000? No, but most people are currently using XP. In time everyone will go to Vista as they did with 98, ME, 2000, and so on.

Hardware is getting better and cheaper as the days go by, so Vista using more resources than might currently be available on some systems will be a non-issue. Right now it might be an issue, and I understand that, but in the long run it won't be.

When are they going to figure out that the reason it isn't selling well is because it sucks?
So what sucks about it?

won't be an issue in the long run for who? I fix computers for a living and I can't tell you how many XP systems I work on in a month with only 265 megs of memory and most of those have on board video so they have basically 192 for XP. I see tons of PC's with Vista for sale @ BB and other stores that only have 512 megs, yes these are the low low end price ones. But these are exactly the systems average people tend to buy. In 5 years I see myself working on a lot of Vista boxes that only have 512 megs, with 64 of that going to the onboard video. With people saying "why the hell is my PC so slow?"

With XP, you could get a legitimate version for free, if you proved that you bought a good fake (ie holographic CD).

700MB for the OS? What can possibly justify the OS using that much RAM? It's just supposed to be a framework in which useful applications are run. Then again, we're living in an age of 400MB printer drivers...I suppose everyone loves bloat.

QFT. I had exactly the same experience when I was in IT. At one point Compaq would actually sell you a computer with 64MB of RAM and WinXP.

Try going outside the United States. A girl in the Taiwan Exchange student program (17) tried to have me help her with her Laptop. I said it was pretty messed up and just needed a reinstall and asked if she had a reinstall CD. She hands me this "Windows XP Enterprise Edition" in this black envelope and burned onto a Memorex CDR. Uh huh.. That looks legit..

Microsoft isn't always acting upon things here in the states. Sure, Windows piracy happens here as well, but in places like Asia it's on a level almost incomprehensible to us here in the states.

Just a case of non-existant privacy laws, or ones that aren't enforced, or really, a combo of those two + a government that doesn't give a crap. You're right in that piracy in the states isn't sh!t compared to what it is in Asia...talk about a nightmare trying to enforce.

I guess you want your RAM to...sit around and do nothing? Great use of resources, that.

I have had no problems with my 64bit Vista Ultimate other than some program compatibility and even that is mostly gone

I enjoy its enhance multiple processor support and its ability to utilize more ram than XP (up to 128GB IIRC) and, as somebody who has to train people on vista, find that computer semi-illiterate people have less problems with vista than XP (Its more intuative with better explanations and a significantly better help menu. Plus the search bar feature is a life saver for those disorganized people)
