Nope. If I'm going to pirate an OS I'll pirate the one that works better.

Bastards.

Vista Ultimate is the first MS OS I payed for. I thought I'd try out this whole legal avenue deal, see what it's all about.

I switched back to XP 64bit.

Can I get my damn money back?

In a matter of no time the standard will be 4gb anyways...
What's the chances we can skip Vista like we skipped Millenium?

The 119.00 is not half price. You can get Vista Basic upgrade for 70.00 or Vista Basic oem for 95.00 or Vista Premium oem for 105.00.

They'll be able to go legit by paying what is effectively a quarter of the UK's retail price.

Hey MS, your UK prices SUCK.

Heh, most people who did the pirated version installed Vista ultimate. That's still going to be hugely expensive even at half price. But, I can't muster up too many tears for 'em.

Don't forget to smelt it in the fires of Mt. Doom.

Really? People complained about XP? I must have missed that boat. The only real complaints I heard were about the easily-disabled new look.

Agreed, all I heard about XP after it came out was how stable it is. I never heard any bad reviews. Plus, I could be wrong since it was a while ago but I am pretty damn sure driver support was MUCH better coming out of the gate.

At any rate, I think MS might have screwed themselves with XP, it's just too nice to switch from. I might switch in a few years when I actually need more than 2-3 gigs of ram but in the mean time XP is so solid I have no reason to "upgrade."

It works great. It's faster than Vista, for one thing. It worked with my 4GB right after installing, I didn't need to do that "turn off memory hole mapping, install Vista, install 64bit memory patch, re-enable memory hole mapping" dance. (Vista 64 doesn't support 4GB of ram out-of-box, you need to apply a windows update fix for it to boot).

The WOW is working for me, as advertised. Some people say that they have issues with it, though. I haven't run into a single problem, yet. Running almost 24/7 for a month or so now.

The small performance boost in games and programs is a sight for sore eyes. It's like christmas again, for me.

Nowhere near as many people complained about XP. I loved it from day one. It was a windows2k that stuff actually worked on

A Vista install with 4GB worked fine for me... I know the problem is out there on some configurations though.

those who relent and buy a real copy of Windows can do so at reduced prices ? $119 for Windows Vista Home Premium, half the regular retail price.

So maybe this should go into Hot Deals! :p

Install a pirated copy of Vista and then buy a legit copy for half off!

Also, it sounds like those out there that are using the OEM Bios hack are going to be out of luck when SP1 comes out.

Or they could just go to Newegg and buy the OEM version for about the same price.

Lets start a poll on how long it takes the new 'protection' system to be cracked.
I'm going to go with, 'will be cracked before it even gets released to public'

Not that anyone here would ever DREAm of pirating Windows, but until the new WGA is cracked, you can always just turn off auto updates to make sure you don't touch SP1 until it's safe to do so. MS confirmed this'll only affect people who take the update.

you can always go back to xp, buy a mac, or install linux

I agree with what some other reporters have said.
MS goofed making so may versions of vista.
They should have just made one version, thrown all the stuff in it , and sold it at retail for 99.00 .
They would have a ton of users.

I want to hear some real complaints about Vista other than "it sucks" or similar bullshit. I've been using it for months now and haven't had a single problem. I have 2gb of RAM and it runs perfectly fine. You dumbasses get your panties in a wad if your memory usage goes over 25%, but that is a completely worthless point to argue since it is there to be used. I never restart my computer and constantly play games on it with zero problems.

Probably no more than 10% of PCs in use have 2GB RAM. I know at my company it's more like 2%.

Haha, I've got two sealed copies of Home Premium sitting in my desk. My computers are still running XP, until I find a good reason to switch. Maybe I should sell them before all those half-price editions ruin the market...
