Stop it with the false equivilence...

Al Frankin hasn't said anything remotely crazy while in office. Huge difference between disagreeing on issue and "founding fathers ended slavery"

You have to remember that Genx is basically a hack who thinks Democrats and Republicans are the same and when people try to point out the various MAJOR differences, he can't process the information because he has the cognitive abilities of a 5 year old. He's your typical intellectually lazy low information voter.

Wellstone and Franken aren't even in the same universe of nuttiness that Bachman is. To even put them on the same list is laughable. Hell, i would argue the same with Jesse Ventura.

Incidentally, with regard to the claim that the founding fathers ended slavery, I don't see that as so horribly nutty. It's factually incorrect in that they did not end slavery. But there was a major debate over the adoption of the DOI since it originally expressly denounced slavery, which eventually culminated in the entire South walking out of congress. And if not for the eventual striking of that section the DOI would not have been adopted.

To say that Jefferson owned slaves is true, but he was in favor of its abolition in the DOI.

Bachmann has said plenty of nutty things, most notably saying 9/11 was God's judgment, but I never found the founding fathers ending slavery thing to be so egregious.

And when people point out the similarities between the parties you just go on one of your insult-fests until threads get closed. You have had 2 threads closed in the last week because of it.

You're mistaken, as usual (notice a pattern?)

Genx (and you) point out both parties are the same. Any sane, rational person who pays attention to politics knows this is not true, even on major issues. Pointing out that there may be some similarities does not invalidate our argument that both parties are different. Saying 'both parties are different' != saying 'there's no similarities between both parties'.

I do not expect someone, such as yourself, who can't tell the difference between a real news story and a satirical one to understand this. Or the fact that you make a factually incorrect statement that's easily countered by ACTUAL facts and then you go off on a tangent that has nothing to do with the statement you made trying to avoid it altogether because you're either too stupid to realize that you lost an argument, or you're so embarrassed that you need to change the topic.

Also, lol @ you thinking the mods closed those threads because it was only i doing the insulting, how little self awareness do you even have?

It is when you teach that to your kids. Remember she home schooled. Its part of the right trying to white-wash history portraying the founding fathers as god-like.

Legislatively speaking the parties have more in common than not.

Both parties take money from business.
Both parties protect the interests of their donors.

Outside of rhetoric on issues and style both parties seen to govern in ways that are counter to the public good.

That's ironic coming from someone who has spent over a week dodging a simple question. Remember Phokus, the only person in life you really need to be honest with is yourself.

The only one dodging a 'simple question' was you. You made the assertion that the GOP recently agreed to tax increases as part of a bargain. REALITY says otherwise. Yet you kept going on a tangent that had nothing to do with this discussion because you know you lost, badly. It's embarrassing how you keep on dodging the fact that you got smacked down by trying to change the subject.

Major differences:

Had McCain or Romney won the election, we would have attacked Iran by now. Remember, McCain even SANG about bombing Iran. Invading Iran would have been another several trillion dollars and countless lives lost. THIS by itself would be enough to invalidate the statement that 'both parties are the same'.

Not enough? Ok, lets go on. The GOP has never been interested in National Healthcare reform. Had the GOP retained power, there would have been NO reform possible. They want the status quo. I would characterize this as a major policy difference as well with huge implications, no?

Not enough? Ok then look at abortion (which is disappearing in red states) and gun control. There are so many differences, the very idea that 'both parties are the same' is a laughable statement that only the intellectual lazy who have no desire to actually dig deeper into the actual politics and just accept whatever lazy pop politics that happens to be popular at the time.

This is the dodging I am talking about. Unlike you I already addressed it. We don't make new tax rates every month pal, so 5 months is recent in terms of tax rate adjustment. The last time the upper tax bracket was adjusted was 2003. There I addressed yours issue, are you going to address mine?

So now the differences are what your psychic abilities tell you? And you are the typical hack. All good things about Obamacare are because of the left. If any criticism of it comes up revert back to saying it was originally a Republican plan.

You didn't address shit, you were talking about a deal with the democrats over the budget and the GOP RECENTLY agreed to a tax increase (meaning a FUTURE action) as part of the deal. I'm really flabbergasted at how low your intellect is.

LMAO, these are stated positions of the GOP you idiot.

Yeah, McCain totally wasn't serious. And George Bush TOTALLY didn't set a precedent by the GOP when he decided to attack Iraq over bullshit reasons. Yeah, it's totally unimagineable that they'd attack Iran.

Abd are you seriously going to argue with me over healthcare? You are clueless

Um, that might have something to do with the fact that terrorists took out the WTC when Bush was president, not Obama.

Ho...ly... shit

What did Iraq have to do with the WTC Bombing again?

You're not getting it, the GOP keeps on harping about how Iran is developing 'WMD's'. If Obama followed Bush's Iraq blueprint, we'd have boots on the ground there right now. It's the same 'justification'.

First of all, you said 2 wars, not 1. By that I assume you were referring to Afghanistan and Iraq.

9/11 had everything to do with Afghanistan. It was used rightly or wrongly as the pretext for the invasion of Iraq.

You're not getting it, the GOP keeps on harping about how Iran is developing 'WMD's'. If Obama followed Bush's Iraq blueprint, we'd have boots on the ground there right now. It's the same 'justification'.

Not exactly. We'd wait for some kind of first strike, or some sufficiently lethal provocation.

Incidentally, I agree that the parties are different. Or at least along ideological grounds they are.
