would some large women just head on over to Florida and sing us a song?

I'd love this to be over already!

<< In a setback for the Gore campaign, officials in Florida's Miami-Dade County abruptly called off a hand recount of presidential ballots, saying they can't complete it by Sunday's deadline.

Instead, the three-member board voted unanimously to use their original returns compiled immediately after the November 7 election. The action reverses a decision made earlier in the day when the panel said it would limit the county recount to 10,750 "undervotes" -- ballots on which no vote was registered by counting machines. Now, no additional recounts will be added.

Justice may yet prevail.

Thats not a real problem - Bush has a current lead of what, 950 or so?
So there needs to be a gain of, say, 500 votes for each county?

I wonder if the gains will be huge, to wipe out Bush's lead by a huge margin (to say, look! Al was the clear winner all along)? That might arouse suspicion, so maybe the gain will be "just enough"? That might lead to further legal battles. Probably just an in-the-middle gain of around 1300...

Wow, this is an interesting turn of events. I hope Gore uses this opportunity to finally concede and waive any further appeals of these issues.

You seem to be a bit confused there, Red. The only skunk in this race is Bore.

<< The head of the Palm Beach County canvassing board said today that it's not easy to look at a ballot card and try to figure out the voter's intent. Charles Burton testified during a state court hearing as Democrats try to force the canvassing board to broaden the definition of a valid ballot. Palm Beach has generally not been including dimpled ballots in the vote count. >>

This is just the latest of DOZENS of examples of the democrats trying to manipulate the totals. Just how much evidence do you need before you finally realize what is happening?

Daly said they will pursue Dade in court, because he says they HAD to do the recount, BY LAW... I'm laughing so hard, I'm gonna die.

<< These two guys made him look like the Pope! >>

Red, Pope John Paul II is a great man and a man of God. Please don't sully his name by even putting it in the same sentence as Clinton.

Interesting development though. They were probably persuaded that if they only counted certain ballots, they would be breaking the law, and their efforts would be wasted anyway.

I think next election, we need Beavis and Butt-head to run for President... just to keep it in sync with this one.

I'd really like to know what the reason is for the abrupt halt. I mean, there isn't even any clarity on what would happen if they had counted 50% by the time the deadline came around --- the stuff they HAD counted might still have been 'valid'. I'm curious about this.....

DO you want to work through the holidays counting pieces of paper. Hell, that's manual labor.....I wouldn't work for the benefit of either of those damn fools on a holiday.

Clinton has "honer".

Maybe a boner, but definitely not "honor"

EDIT: Now that I think about it, Clinton could be "on her".

My assumption is that they acted out of concience!!! Probably were under pressure to "find votes" without any real assurance that they would be "protected" by ammunity from any prosecution if any fraud were discovered. Smart of them I'd say.....

...and as usual, Red, is still clueless.

People! This doesn't change anything! There are still 2 counties to find the votes in! 2!

Why, look - I just found a ballot under my chair... hmmm, this chad for Gore looks slightly dented, lets see, when I hold it up to the light and press on it with my pencil - yep, definitely a vote for Gore. I'll just puch it all the way out and use the chad to fill in the unexplainable chad shaped hole beside Bush - perfect!

Russ:

Hee hee. Nope, it has been me all along. I am a Democrat but first and foremost an American and an airman, and the last thing the country needs is four years of partisan bickering with congressional Republicans calling ad nauseum for the President's head.

I wish GW Bush well and I hope we can all get past this (though frankly I predict no small amount of partisan rancor will mar the political landscape for the foreseeable future).

I'm interested in their reasoning. Wonder what really convinced them to stop...probably figured if they did continue they would be recounting through Christmas vacation too.

I'm going to laugh out loud if the court orders Miami-Dade to recount. They had three options. They could have the Elections Division come in and check their software. That'll take a couple of days. Then they could do another machine count. Oops, the deadline has passed.

Miami-Dade voted (the first time) that there was no error requiring a recount. They then flip-flopped and said, yeah, there was an error, let's recount.

I also think that getting a court order to force the Counties to count dimples is doomed. If PBC decided that they cannot tell the intent, then they get to make that choice. The Democrats are welcome to contest that after the vote is certifed and have a judge examine each vote. Since the Florida Supreme Court Justices were so nice as to extend the deadline past the shorter one set by law, they'll have to count them dimples pretty darned fast and Al Gore would win based directly on a court judgement.

It is about time that someone in Florida finally got some common sense. Bush won on Novemeber 7. There have been 4-5 recounts in Florida. If someone cannot push a pin through a piece of paper, they should not even be allowed to vote or live. Oh, by the way, the test I took back in highschool, the one that I messed up on. I want to retake it. Thanks.

they are all liars. If the situation was reversed and Gore led by 900 votes the Repulikans would be pulling out all the stops to get ahead. Both parties are money grubbing, pork bellied, selfish, me me me, skuzzballs. If people want to blame something, blame our lousy a$$ ancient voting system.

Personally, I would rather have Clinton for another 4

It is real eye opener to listen to the two speak. Gore speaks very eloquently, Bush is like a dead fish
