I do not approve of increasing the rights of police to detain people (that is decreasing the rights of people.. I also like police though.. I guess I'm wierd).. there were legitimate worries wit some of the law that was first proposed.. but punishing those that give them jobs was the solution proposed by many left wing observers here in Canada... the NDP would freak if that sort of non protection to local workers was proposed in parliament..

Do they not want to deal with the issue at all? It should be dealt with without infringing on anyones basic human rights (and civil rights)... but how on earth does enforcing employer laws do either other than to say "Look at me, I hate the average person but damn if I don't love businesses paying dirt to folks to do jobs you should be paid to do so they can get an extra 20% profit on lettuce."

WE raised minimum wages here for farmers... you know what happened? prices went up... big fucking boo hoo.... people are still employed and now make more of a living wage, and I still buy strawberries from the market...

That is the most moronic comparison I've ever heard and has absolutely on bearing on this situation.

Also, fighting back does not equate to outright killing.. though I know how most of the folks on here feel about that...

Someone assaulting my wife at close range could not be farther removed from a kid throwing a rock from 50 feet away while I'm standing there in combat gear...

I think the BP guard is likely not very good at his job if he fires off his gun in response to rocks a few dozen feet away... Who here has not had a rock thrown at them at one point in their lives... there are other ways to deal with the situation. Those include firing off 'warning shots' (though this would be strictly forbidden by any Canadian BP... mind you it is mentioned as a crowd dispersal tool to soldiers), having more god damned guards and arresting people the old fashioned way, bringing out the various crowd dispersal weapons they are parading around Toronto lately.

If some kid got killed by police for this same thing I'd be damned pissed the kid was dead... but even more pissed the ineptness of the security allowed it to escalate as far as it did.

I'm not advocating you let immigrants in for free... just that legitimizing 'day work' would go a long way towards solving the lack of order. I'd personally be more inclined to punish folks for not meeting minimum wage laws and watch the immigrants disappear as locals start doing the same work now that they get paid for it.. But there are obviously huge problems with how something is being done... there is no reason folks have to die because of it.

There is nearly zero chance the guard would have been killed from a rock thrown at that distance given the gear he was wearing.. we are not talking about some dude running at him ready to smash a stone into his face.. A single shot into the air would have dispersed the crowd, if they had adequate man power the teen could have been apprehended with simple physical tactics... it is about as cowardly as it gets to do what he did.. and sickening...

This sort of thing happens with a police officer in Canada from time to time... we call them murderers.. they go to jail... No wonder no one respects police on this forum if they are half as useless as this BP.

Despite all that the fact that the USA allows this to continue to get worse (and has for decades) is most sickening of all...

Sigh... I'm not disputing that a rock can harm someone.... Just that there is a HUGE difference between a fist sized rock smashing into the side of someone's face and one thrown from 50 paces...

There are other ways to avoid this (like prevention) than to shoot someone... There are surely situations where firing back is warranted, but there is no reason it has to come to it... and to celebrate the death of a human (boy or not) is disgusting and no better than any of the groups of people everyone here so often bitches about..

The picture I posted is just a view of the general area not of where anyone was standing. I posted it so people get an overall idea of what the lay of the land was there. When people say border crossing people tend to think of somewhere with nothing but dirt and weeds with hills.

This is an area where it has to be hard to keep secure. The border between the two countries is so close that some places share backyards.
