Democrats give Mexican president standing ovation
"Look carefully in the vid and you’ll see Janet Napolitano (in the blue jacket) and Eric Holder (to her right) springing to their feet to pile on."
Nancy Pelosi is (of course standing and clapping too).

How many seats is this going to cost the Dems in November?
I say they loose 80 seats in the House.
Tom McClintock...fuck yah
oh hell yeah.
No one is taking your guns
Just who the hell does this guy think he is to come into our country and dictate to our congress what laws to pass? Of course Pelosi/Obama/Biden all stood up and clapped at the suggestion. Not only that but this guy has no idea what he is talking about.

OK, that is a flat out lie. American Citizens, without a felony, with proper ID, after passing a background check and signing a form where lieing is a felony, then yes you can purchase a long gun or a rifle. No full auto, no assault weapon, not a selective fire weapon. Just a semi-automatic rifle, and heck you can find few guns that aren't semi-automatic, almost all of them are. One pull of the trigger fires one round, another pull of the trigger fires another round, etc.
From what my friend tells me, it's a relatively simple step to take a semi-auto weapon and make it full-auto. Usually involves grinding down something...
"Banning guns is an idea whose time has come." -- Joe Biden
"Banning guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe. -- Dianne Feinstein
"Only the police should have handguns." -- Bill Clinton
"If a bill to ban handguns came to the house floor, I would vote for it. -- Pete Stark
" ...we need much stricter gun control, and eventually should bar the ownership of
handguns" -- William Clay
I believe.....this is my final word......I believe that I'm supporting the Constitution
of the United States which does not give the right for any individual to own a
handgun...." --Jan Schakowsky
We urge passage of federal legislation ... to prohibit ... the private ownership and
possession of handguns. -- ACLU
"The most effective means of fighting crime in the United States is to outlaw the
possession of any type of firearm by the civilian populace." --Janet Reno
I agree that Obama will never be able to pass an AWB, or any harsh gun control legislation, he has been against the American public on too many issues already. But to suggest that no top-level lawmakers are against banning guns is crazy. They are there and they are waiting for a good opportunity to do it.
Which nutter website did you lift that shit from? LOL you were in middle school when most of those "quotes" were uttered.

I agree with a ban, but not the type Calderon is calling for. I believe we should ban the sale of US firearms to mexican military and law enforcement, these are the weapons that wind up in the hands of gangsters not weapons sold to US citizens.
Yet another myth... It never ends /sigh
Myth: Assault weapons can be easily converted to machine guns
Fact: Firearms that can be “readily converted” are already prohibited by law.22
Fact: None of the firearms on the list of banned weapons can be readily converted.23
Fact: Only 0.15% of over 4,000 weapons confiscated in Los Angeles in one year were
converted, and only 0.3% had any evidence of an attempt to convert.24
I'd bet 5 grand that if I put my AR-15 on a table in front of your friend he couldnt make it a full auto weapon.
Probably not. He was referring to a specific gun anyway, and I honestly don't remember what it was. I think it involved grinding down something related to the trigger mechanism, but honestly this conversation was years ago and I just don't remember. It may have been a civilian Mac-10 or something similar (which isn't an assault rifle anyway). He isn't anti-gun by any means, he and his dad are quite big into firearms. His dad has one of the sweetest AR-15s I've ever seen...
The biggest problem I have with previous assault weapon bans is that they focus on banning "scary" looking guns. I'm not sure I agree that the 2nd amendment gives you an unlimited right to bear arms, as some suggest, but I do think it was designed to protect citizens from the federal government getting too much power (though in this day and age, I'm not sure that an armed citizenry is really a practical deterrent).
Honestly, I just don't support a ban at all. Similar to illegal immigration, there are just too many weapons already in the system so it's not practical to try and remove all of them. I would instead favor tightening up background checks and cutting down on black market weapons. I'd also favor promoting gun safety.

The only semi-auto guns that can be trivially converted to machine guns are open-bolt guns such as mac-10's, which is why semi-automatic versions of these guns are already classified/registered as machine guns.
