I haven't tried ranger, but on my first playthrough I've found that a fully-pumped pneumatic bolt to the head will demolish Librarians.
 
btw i never got to use the pump pneumatic weapons my first time around... do you have to manually pump them?
 
Great weapons. I use them against the speedy little mutas that jump from the holes in the ground. Perfect medicine for them. I must be doing something wrong though, since the stake gun always runs out of pressure and I have to change it for the shotty.
 
ok how do you pump them? i'm trying the game again and i have no idea what to do with the weapon when it runs out of gas.
 
I picked the game up at my local target for 25 on clearance. Wasn't honestly expecting a whole lot and prayed it was less rpg-ish then stalker as I do love me a good post-nuclear fallout story! 🙂

Anyway beat the game tonight on normal and I must say this is a game that really did challenge me and caused me to reload form checkpoints more often then any other FPS I can remember. Ammo doe sseem to run out quickly but TBH, if you actually go back and look around at some points after you've cleared it, you'll end up with thousands of rounds I overlooked.

I figured that it usually takes me 5-10 hours to read a good 300-400 page book and I finished the game in that amount of time. 26 bucks for this game was a very good investment as I enjoyed the game thoroughly and even thought the story was very well done.

I highly recommend this game!

Your 5970 can effectively double my cards output with ease on average and you still see performance issue's. Doesn't make any sense.

that has nothing to do w/ it, the 5970 is an incredibly powerful card, its just that metro 2033 is terribly coded, the programmers did a horrible job!
 
It must have been a different difficulty. You have to run first at the far end of the right corridor to grab the explosive and then cross to the left one , run further until you find the place to leave the dynamite. As soon as you placed it run back to the middle corridor up the stairs to your left and place the second dynamite(you'll need mask).

The two spots where you place the explosives constantly spawn mutants, so you have to move fast. You have the same speed as them so you can keep running and if it gets hairy, lead them back to the squad for passport control. There's some loot around in the corridor but when you get near its location there are always two mutants coming from nowhere so you must be prepared. Have your shotgun ready and shoot only at point blank range to save ammo and maximize the damage. The game can be done even on toughest difficulty without using a medkit. These ratpeople are children compared to the librarians later on.
