Metro 2033

I really enjoyed it. It really pulled you in and made you feel like you were fighting for survival. The atmosphere was great.

Pros

-Slightly better sense of "nuclear destruction" than Fallout 3 or Shadows of Chernobyl
-Atmosphere is okay...about the best thing going for it

Cons

-Weak story/Lame ending(s)
-Poor AI
-Linear versus Open Ended
-Scripted sequences
-No side missions
-Uninteresting characters
-Markets for weapons/ammo is meaningless
-Very little/no upgradeable equipment
-Poor weapon balance
-Few enemy varieties
-Political factions -so what?
-Short game

Fallout 3 has a lot more going for it than Metro, and although I did not care for Shadows of Chernobyl, I could say that it has more going for it as well.

I could definitely have skipped this one for the price.

On the other hand, I could definitely recommend Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. Bioshock 2 was so-so for a sequel; the first was definitely better.

On to Dragon Age Awakenings...

Why does every game need to be open ended? Sometimes a linear game is a nice and refreshing thing. No one complains that HL2 is linear and it is hail as one of the best FPS ever.

I wouldn't even say so so. It was overrated by almost every reviewer. It's story was so stupid and boring compared to the first one. It was so obvious they dumbed it down to appeal to a wider audience. Unbelievable. Sophia Lamb was one of the worst antagonists I've seen. Probably seems more that way because Andrew Ryan was so unique.

Mass Effect 2 was so damn good. I loved the first game and ME2 fixed what was broken, and really ramped up the story and action in a big way. They only dropped the ball on one thing in ME2 and that was the mining missions.

If ever there was a franchise that is ripe for a movie Mass Effect is the one.

I loved Metro 2033, so much so that I kept hoping for more and more content. Excellent game from a great talented group of up-and-coming devs.

Won't be buying this until I have a next gen card (probably 6000series / GTX580 or something) as it seems to play this in the full glory and atmosphere you really need an intense GPU setup.

My OC'd 5970 cannot handle it. I'm hoping tri-fire + Bulldozer in the future may handle it.

I thought Metro 2033 was awesome, but ending was indeed lame. IMO, it shouldnt be compared to Fallout 3 or STALKER, they are all very different games. I have absolutely no problem with the fact that Metro is not open ended.

Shit game, runs like shit... *quickly lowers settings* ... oh gawd, looks like shit, story is lame.

Start -> Ccleaner -> Uninstall

Thanks for posting this, it's one of the reasons I don't think next gen cards are quite worth it just yet (not to bash your hardware of course, I'd much rather have a 5970 than what I have now). My 4850 oc'd to a 750 core clock was no match, I had to play at 1024x768x32 on high settings just to get decent frame rates. Of course I'm stuck on a 512mb frame buffer, but you don't have that problem.

Your 5970 can effectively double my cards output with ease on average and you still see performance issue's. Doesn't make any sense.

Granted...I was just expecting it to be more like STALKER or Fallout 3 in that sense as it seemed to imply an "underground world". As the box implies "brave the darkness of the tunnels..."explore the desolate city-surface...". Seemed to imply something more open ended.

How open ended could subway tunnels possibly be?

Well, given the map at the load screen and progress indicator, it would indicate that there are a lot more tunnels to explore than what we get, there are very few buildings you can enter/explore on topside, and you certainly can't "go wherever you like on the surface". At least Fallout 3 and STALKER allow for some exploration, of various tunnels, caves, sewers, train stations, subways, buildings, etc.

I ran the game in Direct x 9....it looked great and the frames were quite nice and smooth.......check it out.

The game was a classic survivor shooter, my kind of game....and I will definitely be revisiting it again sometime, as I really enjoyed every minute of it.

Playing in DX9 also, very high quality looks good with AA & AF cranked.
I'm enjoying the atmosphere created by the graphics in the game. The light, shadows & visual effects are pretty nice. Overall, I really like it. But my other favorites are Farcry1/2, MW1/2, Wolfenstein, & Borderlands.
