Next shoes I get will be Allen Edmonds. Right now, I have a pair of Banana Republic dress shoes that I picked up for like $30 (originally like $160, hard to be that price when I was looking first looking for a job) that I'll wear until they fall apart.

On a related note: I am looking for a pair of black tennis-type shoes for use at work. I *can't* wear dress shoes with the low sides due to some hardware I have in one ankle. I have a pair of new balance black shoes that look great, but they trap so much moisture in that it is starting to cause serious problems. Anyone have any recommendations?

I just picked up a pair of Kenneth Cole shoes on Clearance for $20. This is my third Kenneth Cole pair and I really like them.

Meh. I have two KC shoes, both NY (not Reaction). Both leathers appeared to be of good quality, but turned out to be crap. The buckle was a varnish that came off quickly. They are hard to polish correctly.

My general impression of KC is similar to Pottery Barn. Great veneer, actual build is shit.

I purchased a KC NY bag which was originally priced at $550, I got it for $220, using sale+coupon. The thing is a POS. The partitions were made of cheap cardboard, which are now disintegrated. The buckles appeared nice, but were actually cheap trash, one broke already. The stitching is coming apart in several places. The rubber-ish ends to the leather has shredded easily. I didn't see it when purchased, but the inside of the top flap is actually pleather, which was easily ripped by the metal bar along the top of the bag. The loop has a veneer that has come off after use.

That's been one year into ownership. I don't toss it around, it just goes to and from the office.

I am hugely disappointed by KC. I am bringing the bag in this week for replacement (lifetime warranty).

Yeah I recently bought a pair of Johntson and Murphy's and I'm not really pleased with them at all. Probably wont get another pair again.

Hmmm... your experience is hugely different than mine. I have a few KC pairs and they last me quite a while and I don't see any of the things you posted. Maybe because I change shoes often. Shoe trees and proper maintenance help as well.

I get my shoes polished every 2 weeks, refurbished when they need it, same as resoling. I use shoe trees every time I take them off and never wear them more than twice a week. I've got about 7 pair in rotation.

kenneth coles are crap unless they are italian made. I think is hard to find an italian pair right now because only the most expensive ones are.

I am down to 3 regular pairs, gonna shop for new ones soo. I have:

allen edmonds soho - fits like a glove, leather's a bit harder than I would like though, planned to put some saddle soup on it.

a pair of italian hugo boss - same deal with kenneth cole, get the italian ones, the rest are the same kind of crap KC has only more expensive (big mistake!).

a pair of italian kenneth cole - rubber sole, I am wearing it right now, had it for 4 years and still holding up. Great value for $160, soft leather, comfortable.

I am thinking bally or ferragamo for my next pair. Always wanted bally though.

I'm anal about avoiding products made in China, so most of the more common brands of shoes don't even get considered. My "dress" shoes are Finn Comfort Dijons in brown, and I'm thinking about buying a pair in black also.

With my bad back and knee, I need GOOD, comfortable shoes, and the Finn Comforts meet those requirements. I'd buy SAS shoes, but they're more along the comfortable line than dressy.

Hmm... maybe I don't walk that much, but then again I'm a lightweight so that might helps.

Another vote for Allen Edmonds

They come in a huge variety of sizes as well so you are guranteed a good fit. The corkboard forms to your foot and remains comfy. The leather is top notch and never cracks - just use shoe trees and never wear the same pair two days in a row.

I have 3-pr and they have worn better than anything else I have ever owned.

 to there belts as well - no cracking or splitting in the 8yrs of ownership.

I've had Clarks, Aldo, Ecco, To Boot, Ferragamo, Rockports and I go back to my AE's every time. The designs are also extremely classic so they do not go out of style.

I like my Aldo boots & CK boots for jeans but they are not as comfy or made as well.

Ferragamo > Bally
IMO.

I had several Bally shoes, they are awesome, don't get me wrong, but Ferragamo is the best shoe I've ever had.

Do the Allen Edmon shoes ever go on sale? I just browsed their website and their shoes are incredibly expensive.

annually when they roll a new line out
i got a 350$ pair for 150$

I have a pair of these Johnston & Murphy's in burgundy. Soft leather upper with very flexible sole. Basically cuddles your foot. Nice and comfortable. Toe extends about an inch beyond my toes. These come in Wide widths as well.
I wear them only twice a month or so and I just bought them in May, so I can't comment on durability.
I won't categorically recommend the brand I'm highly satisfied so far.

I had some sweat-shop Tommy Hilfiggers with a huge sole. Then I wore down the sole to the point that I may have induced knee pain; not to mention ass pain in the summer on ice with no tread.

I'll probably need a new pair soon (hopefully)...

So people are complaining that a $50 pair of shoes doesn't last 10 years, but their $350 pair of shoes does? BFD. You can buy 7 pair of $50 shoes in 10 years. Seems like a better deal to me.

as much as i love my allen edmond park avenue, (and to a lesser extent, my allen edmond soho [i dont think the last is my style]), my 50$ "italian" alfani are really, really, really comfortable
