Megaupload shut down by the government.

Awesome. I fully support Anonymous in this.

I don't care if it's illegal, the US government is taking this copyright bullshit WAY too far. Somebody has to stand up to them.

Though really, I would prefer to see defacing of these sites.

Fuck pirates. Someone has to stand up for the guys actually shelling out
money to MAKE this shit that you guys want to steal.

Movies/music/books/games cost a fuck load of money to make and content providers deserve to be paid for their services.

I fully support Anonymous in general. A little anarchy is good in the world.

While I don't agree with the MPAA and RIAA using their weight to influence the government, I also don't agree with what anonymous is doing. They are both fighting their battles in a wrong and losing way.

This. Sad that so many people condone stealing. And anon's attacks will have zero long-term effect on anything. Bunch of kids having a temper tantrum. The sites being temporarily down does nothing.

So what happens to all the people who had paid accounts with megaupload, at one point, they were charging $200 for a lifetime membership.

I was just downloading ROMs hosted on that site just last night!
Damn, oh well there are more super easy mirrors like that for developers.

While piracy is not right, then it should be up to the companies to change their models. Why is it that copyright companies have so much backing from the government anyway?

If the phone company starts to lose money because more people are getting cells instead of landlines, should they go cry to the government to make cell phones illegal?

The RIAA, MPAA are antiquated companies, they need to change their ways, or fold, like any other company. Companies need to evolve if they want to stay in business, not cry to the government to change the environment for them.

Because media companies provide value? IP is srs business.

I've already had this discussion with you and know that you don't give a fuck about intellectual property.

Evolve in what way?

If you dump your landline you stop using their service

Pirates are still consuming the media without paying for it

Like any company, they should have to research this themselves.

By nature, some companies simply just, die. What do you think happened to the companies that use to deliver milk? Either they evolved by becoming distributors to put milk on store shelves or what not, or they simply vanished. The government was not there to save them.

It's a piss poor reason that the government backs these copyright companies so much in the name of money and their own interests. If the government is not there for the people, then why are they there for then? I say scrap them all and start fresh. There's just way too much corruption going on.

Then it should be up to them to find ways to stop or work around them, instead of crying to the government. Does not help that the government backs them up 100% though so of course they keep going. They get special treatment, which I think is pure BS.

You consider piracy to be a legitimate form of competition analogous to the out-phasing of milk delivery trucks?

Not sure if you're ignorant or stupid.

So much for "death to SOPA/PIPA". As usual, this country does whatever the hell they want, wherever they want, and to hell with legalities. If it's not legal for them to do it, they'll simply change the law. 🙄
