To be honest I don't know how much offshore drilling in Florida will help the nation as far as an energy source. I don't find the risk/reward ratio to be in favor of reward. Florida generates a HUGE amount of tourist revenue.
I don't mind drilling off any other coast and making it legal throughout the nation. I just don't want it done off Florida. Too much money is at stake. It's just my opinion and I linked the article because the author agrees with some of this.
Well if gas is 10 dollars a gallon the tourist industry will be dead anyways. There is going to be drilling off florida anyways. I would rather have our oil companies out there drilling than to let the chinese suck our oil dry. Add to that you really think the chinese oil companies will give a shit about spills or disasters? I say get our guys out there and beat them to the oil.
The way I see it if nothing changes we could be headed for a depression. If fuel prices don't drop we will start see double digit inflation because of extra transport cost of all goods. Then when people can't afford goods the lay offs start in mass. This is by far the most important issue this election. I am waiting to hear the democrats plan besides windfall tax which will raise prices even more.
