Hard to say, since I'm not really a gamer anymore...watching movies/TV, listening to music.

2600+, 512 megs RAM, 8500DV (doh), .5 terabytes storage, 2001FP...with sound output to a $10K system 😛

All of my specs beat the average.

But a lot of people use OpenGL over Direct3D. I use Direct3D... am I crazy? What's the benefit of OpenGL?

<---- 9600 Pro

higher in everything but video

XP-M 2400 @ 2.4ghz
1gb Ram
Radio 9700np 360core/320mem
3x250gb Hds
2x180gb Hds
1x120gb HD

about equal except my processor... and my internet speed....

Processor is at 2.8 and the internet speed is at 4 mb down. Thanks comcast.

A64 2800
512MB RAM
Radeon 9800Pro 128mb 256bit
Windows 2000
1mbit/128kbit cable connection
1024x768 32-bit
Free HD space - 10-20GB - about right, I've only got like 14gb free right now
Total HD Space - 70-80GB - only have an 80gb hard drive, going to pick up another at BB when a sweet deal comes up.

Pretty equal. But that's the average PC playing on Steam or that took the survey, not the "Average" PC as the OP's title suggests.

IMHO since survey results almost 50/50)

2.0 on my "main" desktop.

RAM - 256-512MB

512MB.

Video - Radeon 9800 series

This beats me. I think I have a GeForce 4 MX. 😛

OS - Windows XP

Whatever, can't quantify this one.

Net connection - 256Mb/s

WTF?! :Q

Display Res: 1024 x 768, 16-bit

Mine's higher.

Preferred Optical: DVD-ROM

I don't have an optical drive in my main desktop.

Free HD space - 10-20GB
Total HD Space - 70-80GB

That's not enough. 😎

Current:
CPU : 2.4GHz P4
RAM : 512MB
Video: ATI IGP 64mb 😱
OS : Win XP
Net Connection: 3000Mb/s
Display Resolution: 1400x1050 😎
Preferred Optical : DVD-ROM/CD-RW
Free HD Space - 10GB
Total HD Space - 40GB

One that will be built in a month:
CPU : 1.8GHz Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester (higher than current system)
RAM : 1GB PC3200 (higher)
Video : x800XL (DEFINETELY HIGHER)
OS : Win XP (same)
Net Connection : 3000Mb/s (same)
Display Resolution : 1680x1050 (higher)
TOTAL HD Space : 250GB (WAY HIGHER)

Mine is pretty much exactly like that, except I run in 1280x1024 32-bit, and I have more HD space.

1800+@1.7GHz, but it goes to 2.2GHz OK (chipset has usb problems at > 160MHz FSB, and my chip is multiplier-locked)
512MB RAM
5900XT
Windows 2000
6Mb/512Kb
1024x768x32 (x16? WTF)
DVD+/-RW
Free space: ~80GB
Total: ~150GB

Higher, but not by much.
