Be sure to check out the airport in St. George, it's crazy - it looks like airplanes are crashing into that mini-mountain when you're driving in![]()

If you're going to visit any place in Southern CA, I would pick San Diego, and skip LA.

OK - people in Utah are really nice. Incredibly friendly (friendliest I've seen so far). I'm in a restaurant right now and the guy let me plug into the ceiling (even helped me, and OFFERED), brought me a pitcher of water since I said I was thirsty - seriously, just amazingly nice people. AND THEN, to top it off, they made me a killer avocado omelette with extra avocado without me even asking!
Today, I saw Zion (nice drive)! Did a hike up to the top and saw the valley - it was really pretty. Back in St. George today, off to LA tomorrow!

Happiness and job do not always go together. Suck it up. Most people around the world have far worse jobs, and work much longer hours doing things they probably don't enjoy.
That being said, the Northeast cities can put a damper on happiness. Its too much noise, traffic and people obsessed with consumption.
I drove through the country last year. Being from the Northeast, its an eye opening experience. In the Midwest, time is slower, there is no traffic outside of the cities, the air quality is better, and if you go further west, the Rocky Mountains are amazing. The east and west coasts are pretty much the same, especially within the large cities. For a real adventure, drive from Boston to Alaska. If the OP is relocating, the city-data forums can give you some ideas that would suit your lifestyle.

They're mostly Mormons, and Mormons are mostly pretty nice. Zion is gorgeous.

Well, I'm back on the east coast in upstate SC. I think what you're doing is cool. I know you've been the ATOT punching bag many times, and I've never envied you.....but on this I do. It takes a good bit of courage to do what you're doing.
If you get out this way let me buy you a beer. Upstate SC is surprisingly nice. Bigger town feel in a smaller town setting.
Edit: I may have some PC repair work for you as well to help you along your journey.

Funny...a few years ago I took a trip from MA out to the midwest...it was eye opening, as it was my first trip out of the northeast. It gave me perspective on who I really wanted in my life.
edit: Hope your trip is going well Matt!

What restaurant was that at? I live in St. George.
Hope you did the Angel's Landing hike when you were in Zion's. That hike and view is awesome.

New Update:
I've been chilling in Ventura, CA for a while. Absolutely stunning. I saw Kevin Costner play in his band yesterday - he sucks, but the fiddle player was AWESOME (I'm a very big fan of the fiddle). I'm here enjoying the downtown area, the beach, and the two trees. Surfer's point is amazing.
Before this I was in LA. Didn't like it too much but did one touristy thing - went to Warner Brother's studios and did the tour. Was pretty cool. Got to see studio 24 where Friends & Full House were filmed. The drive to there from St. George last week was nice. So far I'm loving California, especially Ventura.
San Francisco is end of this week and *THIS WEEKEND* for those ATOTers in the Bay Area.

I'm in San Francisco! Took a few drives over the golden gate today. I'll be here for a few days (until at least Thursday) if anyone wants to get together!
Past week has been fun. Saw Yosemite, saw Kings Canyon, did lots of hiking, etc. Stayed in Bakersfield a few nights and had a few very interesting experiences. I'll be updating my blog when I can.
