Hey Matt!
Hey there, I've been following your drive thread... Great stuff. Mind if I ask a few questions?
1. what inspired you to take the time off to do a nationwide drive
2. what kind of vehicle are you driving
3. are you paying for the gas or is your company paying it?
4. how do you pick where you are going
5. when are you returning home?
6. did you kidnap a doctor and confine him to the trunk for any medical issues you have during the trip?
Thats all... thanks! Feel free to skip any questions you don't want to answer...
1) A fairly personal situation in my life was most of the inspiration, but also, because I started making a list about 2 years ago of cities I wanted to visit in my life. It started with Austin, TX, then I added Phoenix, and San Francisco, and Portland, and Seattle, and Boulder/Denver, and the list started getting longer and longer. I had the time (if you read in the original post, I was let go from my job on May 8th), so while looking for new work and figuring out where I live, I decided to drive to all of my job interviews instead of fly - basically go on a road trip of job interviews while seeing cool sites along the way.
2) I'm driving a Mercedes Benz.
3) I'm paying for most of the gas, but my personal side gig is paying for gas when I meet up with clients along the way.
4) It's completely random. I never have a definite plan. All I know is that I'm heading West, then I'm heading North along the coast, and then back to Denver. Everything else is random. 90% of the time I don't know where I'm staying until I decide to pull over and camp and/or stay in a hotel. For instance, today I decided to take a random drive on route 66 which took a bit longer, so I stopped in Kingman instead of making it to California. No big deal. I may stay two nights.
5) No idea. If I'm not back by September 1st (I have plans September 2nd), then at that point, Christmas.
6) This question wasn't in your original PM

It's kind of funny - my hypochondria has gotten a crap load better -- I have spent a lot of time on this trip without cell phone service, in the middle of no where, with no medical center in sight, which is a big accomplishment/deal for me (especially for those of you who knew me 2-3 years ago on this forum). But, there are still times when I've looked out my hotel and/or across the street from the campground I'm at and noticed the urgent care center and smirked. I do have med kits with me though, and they have come in handy an amazing amount of times, including today, when I was hiking off
the 180 north of Flag with a friend and took her out as I fell down a hill - we were both bruised and that stuff came in handy.
Hope that helps!
