The reason for the strip is, allegedly, that women were using the matchheads to commit suicide, due to it being poisonous

oh, and strike-anywhere matches are waaaaay more flammable than safety matches. Like, super flammable.
Pretty sure this is why they went to strike on box matches. You could ignite a whole box of strike anywheres by throwing it down. I like strike anywheres. You can light them with a thumbnail.

The one I have is under ten bux on eBay.

Yeah but the cheaper butane models don't get nearly as hot or last as long as a good one does. (I tried several)

This is one of the higher rated models ... cheapest I've ever seen it is $65 + shipping

Read a few reviews don't take my word for it.

It's certainly possible that you found a good one for cheap however propane is still a lot less expensive because the tanks last far longer.

well I use the same tanks for a tabletop butane burner, so it is easy. I use it for burning sugar on creme brule so temp is not a big issue for me.

Ahhh ... it all makes sense now! 😉

When I first got into dabbing I tried using one of these:

While it DID work it took nearly a minute to heat the nail (bowl) sufficiently and in the process of doing so the nozzle got hot enough to make me a bit concerned that it was about to blow my hand off!
