Wish they would have covered what the differences in IQ made when lowering the settings, but both 480 and 1060 can offer very nice 1080p @ 60 experience

Was about to post this myself! Figured it would have gone in the main Mass Effect Andromeda benchmark thread, though.

Their findings are that the 1060 holds an advantage over the 480, but neither card can reach 60 FPS at 1080p/Ultra. They both have issues sticking to 60 FPS even at high settings, so they had to turn a few settings down to medium in order to lock in 60 FPS. Definitely a demanding title -- I do wonder if there's more optimization that can be done, both on the software side and the driver side.

From the video, the GTX 1060 looked like it was ahead of the RX 480 by 10-15 FPS at times (especially during the heavier moments), though admittedly this wasn't consistent. On average it seemed more like a 6 or 7 FPS advantage for the GTX 1060. This game definitely has some more optimization that could be squeezed out using patches and driver updates. I notice that sometimes I get framerate dips on the Tempest in certain places, when the camera is looking at a certain direction for instance.

the PS4 (and Pro) have slowdowns to under 25FPS in this game
midrange cards getting 60FPS without to much sacrifice is very interesting

hopefully Xbox Scorpio is going to have a stronger CPU,

PS4 Pro runs the game at effectively 1800p upscaled to 4K, though.

and the framerate is the same as the PS4/XB1 which have far slower GPUs (drops bellow 25FPS, target 30FPS)
I think it could be related to the weak CPUs,

it's not really 1800P, it's using the checkerboard technique, looks inferior to 4K on a 4K screen, but a lot better than 1080P upscaled, at the same time it adds some visible artifacts, I think lots of people would trade that extra res for higher framerate,

Not sure why you're wondering...
I'll save you the trouble.
Yes. Tons more.

Yeah, this game has such a variance in framerates that even a 1080 ti will struggle in odd spots.

I guess I should have phrased it as "how much more. "

I'll start being impressed when more games have graphs like this. Until then, your game is a terribly optimized turd. The bar has been raised, so if you want that checkmark, you have to deliver.

Ehhh, well...it's arguable that Mass Effect Andromeda is trying to do more than Doom in the first place.

What a helpful post.

Personally, I don't think that unless we know specifically what's going on under the hood and have the experience to understand it, we're not really able to give verdicts like that so easily and confidently. I'd reckon that the actual answer as to why the game doesn't get the performance you're hoping for is a lot more complicated than the game being an "unoptimized turd".

Just speaking from first hand experience with a 4690K @4.5Ghz and an RX480 Nitro (at stock speeds), running the game on high, with v-sync, at 60Hz refresh, the game seems like it stays locked at 60fps. I have not seen the counter drop below 60. And I am around 20 hours into the game.

While this game does have some optimization issues, I don't think it's anymore than any other brand new game that just came off the press. Referring to it as an unoptimized turd is pure hyperbole, and even more, comparing it to Doom is just silly. Whilst Doom is a graphical powerhouse in its own right, it has nowhere near the scale that ME:A has, and lacks certain advanced effects like tessellation which is used rather copiously in ME:A.
