Actually I'm not with anyone at the moment, but friends and people my age are starting to get engaged/think about marriage, and I just wanted to know if any of you were dating someone or in a relationship even though there was no possibility of marriage in the future. I feel like, at a certain point, dating is just a means to get to that one person you want to spend the rest of your life with, so I guess I'm trying to understand the point in staying with someone you know you wouldn't want to marry.

There's 2 mindsets... but I don't subscribe to the 2nd one...

1) Date to find the person you see yourself marrying (common)
2) Date for sex/fun/companionship even though there is NO chance of staying with them.

A lot of people would say there's no point in the 2nd one, unless they just want a piece of @$$ or someone to go to the movies with once in a while. At the same time in this situation, you don't have the freedom to find the real one...
