Fact is the guy did nothing illegal ("terrorizing" is illegal) and was treated as such. He hurt nobody, and that's that. The fact that he had visible capability to hurt someone is irrelevant. Its not the same thing. For one thing, a ccw is supposed to ensure someone with a concealed weapon is a responsible person.

More than what's required to carry in the open in many states.

Of course the process to get a ccw is inadequate to ensure that, and so is the background check to get any gun.

Carrying an AR-15 in a grocery store is irrational and provocative.

There's good reason to fear someone who would do so. Particularly someone who's in there, leaves, and comes back armed.

Doing this shit now is just going to draw attention to the fact that it's legal to openly carry firearms in some public places. There's much less support for the right to carry an "assault weapon" in public places than there is for the right to own them; this guy is just weighing down the branch with the already low hanging fruit.

I'm a gun owner and I'd be uncomfortable if somebody showed up to the supermarket or shopping mall with an AR-15. They're large, heavy, and not at all practical to carry around while shopping. Because it's a dumb thing to carry around for no reason, I'd assume the guy had a good reason for toting it about; he either feels like his life is in some serious danger or he plays on shooting the place up. Either way, I don't want to be there.

I'm pretty sure that the U.S., Israel, and Switzerland maybe the only economically-well developed countries that have the relatively lax attitude toward civilian carry of firearms. Australia recently got a bit more strict. However, it's pretty obvious that third world countries have much higher level of income inequality.

Hunting is one thing. Carrying a semi-auto magazine fed rifle modeled after a military weapon into a store for the purposes of making a political statement(?) is another.

People tend to ignore that even the First Amendment has had reasonable regulations on speech for a while yet say that the 2nd Amendment is sacred while ignoring what might have been meant by "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state" in the first part of it.

This is especially hard to square with logic if one likes to talk about "original intent"

They muster at an armory (IIRC a few years ago they were no longer issued ammunition to keep with their rifles, they pick it up at the armory) to organize and move out to the designated blocking positions. You can't have your militia just "defend what they have and where they are when attacked" because no one lives at the power plant, the bridges, the water purification plant, etc.
