Man to spend life in prison for killing teens in burglary

If this guy shot them both dead and called the cops immediately, he would be free today.

Having recordings of your self sounding bat shit crazy hours before and after the incident, is pretty fucking stupid.

He also declined to call the police for two days - he said he didn't want to bother them on Thanksgiving. Instead he called his neighbor the next day and asked for the name of a criminal lawyer. Interestingly, he hired Steve Meshbesher, whose uncle, Ron Meshbesher, is the most famous criminal lawyer in the state. Frankly I think Steve gets a fair amount of business from people who think they're hiring Ron - there has actually been at least one appeal by a convicted defendant complaining that he'd hired the wrong Meshbesher.

It should. He's not a shitbag.

These kids are, if they didn't break in, he wouldn't have done anything. They would still be alive.

But you'd rather defend the true thugs.

I am not defending them by saying he had no right to murder them. They were engaged in some stupid, very risky behavior. That doesn't mean they deserved to die, and it certainly doesn't mean they deserved to be killed in cold blood.

As far as I'm concerned, those kids were criminals, but Byron Smith was the only known thug in that house. He deserved exactly what he got - life behind bars. I have visited most of the maximum security prisons in our state and he is in for a really unpleasant existence. I can't say I'm bothered by that.

You are defending them. You are minimizing they're actions to justify the punishment of this man.

A guy who's house was broken into before, and who then worked to prepare if it would happen again.

These two dead thugs just happened to break into the wrong house.

You'd rather they break into some other home owner, rob them, then get away. Maybe get caught, and then slapped on the wrist. a vast majority of these crimes are never solved. These idiots just broke into the wrong house. Darn two fewer thugs on the street.

It is not defending these kids to say they didn't deserve to be murdered. I would not have wanted to see them get away with this, nor would I have wanted to see them murdered. I have prosecuted many many criminal offenders and sent one to prison for life - I very much doubt you have ever done anything to see a criminal brought to justice other than calling him a "thug." Byron Smith is a murderer, plain and simple, and deserves all of the years he will now spend in prison.

You sound like a remarkably simple-minded buffoon, so I guess I'm not surprised to see that you are the same person who doesn't know the difference between "their" and "they're."

Those two "thugs" broke the law, and they paid for it with their life. Whether you agree with it or not, he also broke the law and is now going to serve out the remainder of his life in prison.

"Minnesota law allows a person to use deadly force for defense, but that action must be considered reasonable."

It should. He's not a shitbag.

Where do you live in that the punishment for burglary is execution? North Korea?

The guy's a barbarian. May he rot in jail.

Albeit I feel these teens should have done time for stealing, they didn't deserve a premeditated death sentence. Since when is stealing a crime punishable by death? This guy pulled out a plastic tarp, recorded what he was going to do beforehand, knew they might come and purposefully hid his vehicle to make it appear no one was home then didn't call police, he waited long after he shot them multiple times before calling 911. He deserves the sentencing he received. He took this way over the line. This man shows signs of psychotic behavior and is more of a danger to society than these teenagers were. He shot that girl twice and dragged them to an area to finish them off.

The kids fucked with a crazy man, sucks for them. Sucks equally for the crazy man, call the cops instead of killing them, but he would not be crazy if he did that...He messed up by recording it though [which makes me wonder if he has killed before and enjoys it].

You are the one defending a murderer. Better watch who you call the real thug here.

I wonder how much of this guy's story about being repeatedly robbed is completely made up. He seems like the type to fabricate something like that just for the chance to kill someone and get away with it.

Was your favorite part of him killing the kids the part where he shot one in the legs multiple times, then dragged them onto a tarp, then took a break to get another gun to shoot one of them in the head?

Did they break into his house?

After that, I'd give him wide latitude.

So the standard is:

1 clean shot - not a murder
more then one shot - murder.

These thugs had a chance to live. They didn't have to break into the house.

Only 1 in 8 home break ins are solved. Most likely they thought they'd get away with it.

Do you have any proof that he is psychotic, and more of a danger to society then these teens?

Has he gone out and killed others? Or were he's actions only the result of someone else breaking into his house?

So the standard is:

1 clean shot - not a murder
more then one shot - murder.

I'm going to go with more then one shot where he drags them to another place to execute them with a different gun as they are bleeding on the floor.

You are being willfully stupid in this thread.

lol that is funny about Meshbesher. And honestly, I thought the same thing.

The girl was cute. Therefore this guy should fry.

Here we go - the GOP's new Joe The Plumber.

Couple this guy with Bundy - a dash of Palin,... and 2016 will be back in the hands of war mongers, murderers and goons for the rich.

It's looking better and better for you blood thirsty creep as time goes on; lots of patriots for you to look up to and rock solid leader ship that believes in torturing people.

most states allow using deadly force to defend your house.

Your just another apologist for criminals.

He shot and wounded each of them. Both were incapacitated. He identified that they were no longer a threat. He had defended himself. All good.

And then he executed them in cold blood. He's a fucking barbarian and has no place in our world. If you can't see that, then I consider you just as Cro-Magnon as he is.

Yes I see the Republicans are trying to get him out on work release so he can go on the campaign tour for 2016.

Do you honestly believe that anyone other than yourself takes anything you post seriously. Go get help Moonie.

And he won't shoot anyone again, nor will he ever again have his own home that needs defending from thieves.

Still, swings and roundabouts.

Long story short, 3 people are removed from society that we're probably better off without.
