The DA who filed the charges and failed to bring the case to trial, leaving Slevin to rot, is Susana Martinez, the current governor of NM.

Her husband was an under sheriff that oversaw the Dona Ana county jail where Slevin was held.

Obviously, the responsible government officials will face no repercussions.

I'm sure you are correct, and of course the taxpayer is on the hook for the settlement, which I am sure includes language that those persons can't be sued.

Yep, it looks like the now Governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez (Republican btw) was the D.A. for this guy when he was originally incarcerated. No wonder there hasn't been much out there about this case.

That convinced federal jury to award him $22M. So yeah, I'm sure there is a compelling counter argument we just aren't hearing yet.
