Superman is boring to me because:

1. Archtypical good hero. No particular inner conflicts. Just do 'good' deeds like a bumbling jock.

2. Too strong.

Why is Superman so slow in that trailer? He barely broke sonic boom. He can circle the entire fvcking globe in 1 second or faster, no?

That's the 1960's-70's Superman. The newer version is weaker, more vulnerable, isn't "super-intelligent", doesn't have made up super powers (other than super-ventriloquism as an occasional gag), and makes moral mistakes based on feelings. He's actually a lot more interesting now as people are more paranoid about him, the military wants to weaponize him, and world governments find him to be above the law.

Supes has come a long way since the corny Christopher Reeve rendition. The last movie failed because it tried to pick up where that outdated mess left off. I proper reboot is in order to bring the character to a new generation.

(BTW- I keep a Superman figure on my PC at work 🙂 He was a big influence on me as a kid and it's a reminder to always do more than the normal person would).

I always thought the whole Superman's arch enemy being Lex Luthor is rather silly.

Luthor is just one of many. The problem with the movies is that Luthor is always in them. We should have had Brainiac, Doomsday and Darkseid for movies 3, 4 and 5. Although a modern Lex Luthor could be just as interesting, not the stupid Luthor in the movies who wants to be a land baron.

He's strong because the main guys he deals with are just as strong or stronger. And he's not just a do-gooder; he has no choice because he has to fight the battles that no one else has the strength or will to deal with. Who are you going to get to beat Brainiac..Batman? GTFO. He takes on all comers, regardless of whether he thinks he'll win or lose. Superman deals with bank robbers and natural disasters on his way to a real fight. So yeah, he should leave those crimes to Batman :biggrin: , and they shouldn't be in Superman movies at this point.

Kinda lame that people don't like Superman because he's a boy scout. A hero doing the right thing, simply because its the right thing to do, shouldn't be seen as a negative.

I'm in. The actor they picked for Superman (Henry Cavill) is a good actor; he was excellent in "The Tudors" series, and if he gets a good script, this could be a decent movie.

The villain is General Zod who is also a Kryptonian. Hence, he has the exact same powers as Superman and therefore doesn't need either of the things you mentioned. 😛

Just saw the comic con trailer... Not even a superman fan, but damn its so well done, you can tell from the trailer it is gonna be a quality movie unlike any of the previous ones

And with Zack Snyder at the helm, we are guaranteed top notch visuals as well (IMO no one does it like he does, he just has a way of showing every single detail in action scenes with no blurry/shaky cam whatsoever, it blows me away every time)

Agreed with Snyder. His movies may not always have the best storylines they're damn sure to be entertaining action flicks.

I agree 100%
Superman is the most boring comic character there is. Too strong and too straight laced, he has no interesting aspects to his character.

I personally think you could do a lot with the fact he's so straight laced in this grey world. The fact that his 50s ideals just don't fit in with world politics could make for interesting stories.

So, I'm on Smallville season 4 now, and I'm not too sure why you hold it to such high esteem. I do find it interesting when I see actors/actresses that I know from their later roles (that I've already seen), but I guess it seems alright.

I hope this works and Snyder and Nolan sign on for sequels. The Superman story needs better villains than Luthor. Zod is a decent start. I'd love to see Darkseid and that whole story arc, but it reminds me too much of what they just did with the Avengers.

I've probably seen all of them. Most recently the movie "Superman vs. the Elite" and I liked it. It was a good animated movie.

That sort of thing works with animated movies, which I like a lot - they don't work with big budget hollywood flix as represented by the last movie that was made not 5 years ago.

We'll see if Zach can do a better job, but I'm not holding my breath.
