I'm sure he did lose the weight. Mcds posts the calorie information and you can guage your caloric intake.

The problem is the actual quality of Mcds food. We all know the quality of meat as well as other ingredients. Its just not "real" food. That has to be doing some kind of damage to your systems over the long term.

Please. Quality of meat and vegetables at McDonald's is fine. As long as you don't eat fried food for every meal, you're ok.

I ate chicken wings, gyro, philly cheesesteak, and fries twice a day, everyday, for about 6 months because it was free and available. All the fried food and grease did cause havoc to my cholesterol level but everything was back to normal in about 6 months after I stopped eating it.

Honestly, if I don't eat until I am actually hungry, I don't give a shit what it is. As long as it tastes reasonably good not hungry > hungry. I've lost 35 pounds over the last eight months, and I only changed two things: 1) I stopped using 3 spoons of sugar in every cup of coffee and started using splenda; 2) I started walking my dogs two miles every night. The one thing about walking dogs is, once you start they won't let you stop.
 
Yeah I agree. HE also probably did zero exercise prior to this publicity stunt.

Why does this even matter? The fact is, moderate exercise and eating at a caloric deficit should result in weight loss.

This guy is simply proving that it is not WHAT you eat, but how much of it you eat. Not everyone that eats food at MD's is a fatty. Not everyone that eats food at Subway is slim.

When it comes to weight, 99% of it is about being at a caloric deficit. This entails either eating fewer calories than your MBR, or adding exercise to your daily routine. In any case, the dude ate MD's for 3 months and lost weight.

Publicity stunt? More like a wake up call to every fatty out there that you can very easily lose weight by simply making some dietary changes and adding some exercise. Too often people make the claim that they can't lose weight because they don't have the time to prepare meals and don't have the income to buy healthier options. This just proves that all of that is BS. And while MD's should NOT be considered healthy, one can still lose weight with that as their only source of caloric intake.
 
How is it not real food? What is real food? You just know in your heart that it's not "real" food because it's popular to bash McDonald's?

I mean that it is not quality food. Fast food is known for taking shortcuts. Even the pickles. Have you ever pulled a pickle out of a Big mac and tried it by itself? Pickles I get at a grocery store taste better. I won't even get started on the pink slime stuff that was used in their beef.

Maybe I have more picky taste, but I just don't think the food is very good or geared towards being healthy. Its focus is to be "good enough" (pleasing to the lowest common denominator of people), easily replicated across thousands of McDonalds locations, cooked quickly and cheap. Maybe I have more picky taste than most people but I try to not eat at Mcds unless I am really out of options.
 
You have yet to reply with an answer other than snobbery. Is it edible? Does it contain calories? Nutritional content? It may not be ideal food but it is food nonetheless. Snobs are annoying, regardless of the particular area of snobbery.

I eat huge meals but infrequently. I still look as skinny as I did when I was in college.

So easy to manage calorie intake if you're just preparing meals for yourself... gets really, really hard when you're trying to be social, meeting people at bars, going skiing with your friends, going to your folks' house for dinner etc.

Not impossible, just really, really hard.

Doing all of the above and hitting your goals isn't hard, you work with a average value and spread it out over the week. So maybe 1-2 days are way over, the other 5-6 you can be under and hit your average.

Props for him doing this experiment though, I've never been a fan of blaming the fast food joint.
 
Real food is not preprocessed, shaped and /or frozen. Real food starts out as whole or an identifiable part of a plant or animal. Real food is prepared with attention to detail. I have never seen real food prepared at a fast food establishment.

Yet its easier to get nutrition at McDonalds today than for the average citizen 100 years ago. Or hell, citizens today in third world countries.

What he meant is that most of the things that make up McDonald's food used to be left on the butcher's floor but is now gathered up, cleaned, and ground into meat. Things like skin, sinew, stomach, intestines, etc. that if actually presented to a consumer on their own would be turned down but grind it up, call it "beef" or "pork," and suddenly it's fine.

By the literal definition, McDonald's is "food," but it is made from the shit poor people used to dig out of dumpsters behind meat processing plants.

So eating it everyday in the short term isn't going to hurt you. The human body is designed to handle that. Long term though, that's a different story.

this. I was a really bad boy over the holidays. time to go back to oatmeal for breakfast and and rabbit food for lunch for the next 11 months.

If you were starving it would keep you alive, so what does "not good for you mean?" Does it mean it's "bad for you?" If I were starving McDonalds' food would kill me faster? You can rank foods nutritionally in any way you want, but if it's food, then by definition it is not in the class of substances that are "bad for you."

It's a pretty good bit of evidence that our quality of life is great compared to the historic levels when we can be so discerning about what we eat. Hundreds of years ago, McDonalds food being cheap and available would have been a godsend. Now we think of it as a curse.
