Do you always give yourself 2-3 minutes or do you just go when ready? I find that my first 3 sets of squats aren't so bad (185 pounds, 5 reps today) and I took about 20 second breaks. However between the 3rd and 4th and the 4th to 5th I needed a full minute and a minute and twenty seconds respectively to get ready to lift again.
yes always 2-3minutes inbetween squats. i always squat heavy and hardly ever for any thing more then 6reps due to my olympic lifting. i'm not here to get bigger, just to lift more so having a longer rest period is fine with my coach.
i try to aim for 2minutes now so i can get through my sessions faster. i don't have that much time at lunchtime to bash through my squats, an hr. i also super set wide grip pull ups, pull ups inbetween squats days [mon, wed and friday lunchtimes] to make better use of my time. my legs rest enough here and then i get back to squats.
when i was doing 6reps x 5sets i would take 3-4minutes as thats back breaking. 120kg x 6reps x 5sets for front squats and 140kg x 6reps x 5sets for back squats.
my squats of the past 4months have been more like 8, 6, 4, 4, 3, 3 reps set scheme. i warm up to the 8th rep set of squat and thats the minimum that counts.
