and nuclear accidents keep happening ... Russa, USA, Japan, etc. Nobody is immune.

I would rather have a windmill and a battery. Cheaper and a lot safer.

----------------------------------------

any news on the suspect in these murders getting caught?
But that’s just it, there has been 3 nuclear accidents the 60-70 years of them in operation. I never bothered to watch video about 3 mile island. Chernobyl was human error. Fukushima was unfortunately a domino effect.

In regards to nuclear waste, unfortunately it’s cost cutting that is preventing the reusing of waste products. It really can be far cleaner than it currently is.

And back on topic, the raid from last night has discovered his abandoned car with a suicide note written before the mass shooting. So he wasnt expecting to survive. Now they are searching the lake where the car is.

Edit oh post after me

I use the same argument to point out the stupidity of pushing the use of nuclear energy. Mothers worry about their kids. In that case the nuclear boys shout irrational. Fear can attempt to block or push for political change. Women have it right on nuclear and right on gun in the main. The biggest buyers of guns in recent years are women. They aren’t waiting for 911 to save them. Neither are mothers blowing away people breaking into their and their children's’ homes.

I don’t have CBD, WHATEVER THAT IS, NOR AM I MUCH WORRIED ABOUT ANYTHING. NOne of my guns are instant fire ready. Guns are not loaded even in magazines. Many are disassembled.

Not used to you acting irrationally.
As you realized that was directly your quote from one of the climate change threads where we were discussing nuclear power with the single change I made to reference shooting in italics.

I used your quote to maybe get your attention and put some thought into your position instead of immediately gainsaying it like you’ve done to most of the other posts here.

I’m not sure what CBD is either. Since it was your quote I assumed you would know. Probably conservative or cognitive brain defect.

Likewise I’m shocked that you’ve put so much effort and ego into your firearm ownership. I wouldn’t have thought that someone who was so against the risk of commercial nuclear power which hasn’t killed anyone in the US doesn’t see the problem with guns in the US. I mean Chernobyl potentially killed 100,000 in the 35 years since the accident. In the same time we’ve had over 1.2M gun deaths and 1,000s of school shootings. There are many moms there that might disagree with your stance

I’m not against self-defense and I don’t want to see self-defensive criminalized but the facts speak for themselves. Outside of some very specific circumstances owning a gun makes you less safe. What you are doing with your weapons by being responsible helps decrease that safety deficit but it never brings it back to equal.

This thread is proof of that risk. The guy was obviously well trained but started hearing voices. How can you be responsible when your own mind starts failing you?

IMO backdoor gun control starts with pistols. Sort of a bullshit gun anyway, responsible for the vast majority of shootings, concealable, far less penis transference happening like with the AR-15 and such.

Start there, work your way outward. Mass shootings bad and indescriminate, but most lives saved by focusing on handguns.

The previous assault weapons ban says otherwise. Shootings were down something like 230% compared to now.
Propaganda, using correlation without causation.
Though it was not neatly correlated either. You're using the massive spike in (mass) shootings since our society deteriorated.
And then you're pretending handguns are not effective weapons. That's a huge mistake where you are seeking a purely pyrrhic victory.

Banning "assault weapons" is a feel good move. Shootings, and mass shootings, will still be a crisis in America.
They must all be restricted.

short of banning all firearms, i'd absolutely go after all semi-automatic weapons of any kind, and all pistols.

pistols are responsible for most deaths, but indiscriminate nature of mass shootings has a more profound effect. we also shouldn't ignore who suffers. "general" violence? typically minorities and in cities. mass shootings? looots of white people, and not necessarily in super dense urban areas.

I recognized the argument not the quote. CBD would indeed be Conservative brain defect. I take a similar position with regards to banning guns, it goes against human nature, the right of self defense. As I have argued before, I have no doubt that statistically gun ownership can be risky to gun owners but I believe it is their right to make that assessment, not the right of fearful authoritarians to make it for them. I have no doubt either that that easy gun availability makes attacks with guns more likely. I am for rational gun control. I regard banning guns as absurd as promoting nuclear power, there is profound resistance to it. I like guns. In an ideal world I would be a collector, assuming money time and interest which would also mean I would have to be less interested in other things. Guns are absolutely irrelevant to my sense of well being. I would be tickled pink if they were never invented. But here they are and in the millions and I'm not holding my breath that they will be banned in America. That is why I focus not on gun bans but on mental health issues. In a sane world everybody could have a million guns and nobody would be in danger with perhaps a few exceptions where there are organic causes and not self hate issues causing the mental illness.

In time the freedom to own a gun that our forefathers saw so much wisdom in may fade where fear of victimization outweighs traditional norms of freedom. Everyone not physically endowed with a powerful physique will have to rely on someone else who has a gun to protect them. I pity those who would otherwise successfully defended themselves who will die as this result of the fear of others being able to protect themselves. Fear makes people insane. This thread, in my opinion, is full of just such people.

I have devoted lots of posts to what I see as the rise of fanaticism on the left, cowardly little chicken shits suffering herd mentality, programmed fearful bots, knife wielding bully putdown artists.

And what really happened to the mind of the individual in question? It seems he lost a job and a women. Not many better ways to make a self hater feel worthless. What if he had lived in a culture that taught those things could trigger feelings that were in fact only lies we learned as children.

A sophisticated person wise to the ways of the self will find opportunity in feeling offended. He or she will know that what is happening is a door to a suppressed feeling is being pried open and a chance to explore and heal is being offered. The ignorant will think the devil is trying to take possession of them. But. as I have said many times, people would rather kill than remember how deeply hurt they were as children. And woe unto anybody who tells them so. You can always tell the biggest self haters in that crowd.

The best way to stop gun violence is to just start shooting Republicans.
Just so long as it's vicarious violence lover MrSquished putting out the call for others to act. We're not likely to see him in the headlines. A real tough guy. You could probably use a therapist. It's not your fault you are as you are and deserve better.

@Indus

Gratitude for taking the time to provide a detailed response. It syncs with what I have read from expats. I had a friend that lived in Thailand for about a decade, I have zero interest in the heat and humidity of Asian countries that is as bad or worse than Fl.

You made the assumption that since you don’t want to see the same truth about yourself and don’t realize it that I can’t see what you won’t as obvious. You won’t see colors either if you are color blind.
You made the claim. I was just asking how you came to that conclusion.

Instead you went with deflection…. You know the defense of the guilty or children

on a more serious note,

more violence is not the answer.

This problem will solve itself with time. We have generations of children growing up with mass shooter drills. They don't value firearms. They don't value ownership. They never handle them. Their only experience is preparing to get shot.

When policy swings the other way it will swing hard and without mercy.

Again this obsession from decisions made by white men in the 1700’s does not apply today. You’re just sticking your head up your ass

As for chicken shits and herd mentality, LOLLLLLLL. It’s the 75-100 million gun owners exclusively in ‘MURICA that are chicken shits cowering behind their metal penis. The rest of the civilized world (yes yes just ignore what’s happening in Ukraine and Israel for now) that are living a far more peaceful and comfortable life than the so called land of the free.

I didn't know anyone was proposing easier access to firearms, I'd absolutely be against that. Though I have to wonder if it matters. You can only shoot one gun at a time, does it really matter if you own three?
What we really need is people control, not gun control. Lets pass a federal law that using a gun in any way in the commission of a crime is a life sentence without parole, even if you didn't pull the trigger. Lets do the same with sales, break the rules when selling a gun is 20 years, no parole. If your weapon is lost or stolen through negligence, 5 years. Unregistered firearm, 5 years. None of this will solve the problem, but it will make a small dent.
People control is useless when these people have already killed.

No gun transfers without a full background check sale or gift. Gun registration is tied to the owner. Even if stolen owner is responsible for any crime with that gun.

No gun transfers without psychological screening and mandatory training. Required on a recurring basis.

Federally mandated red flag laws

Mass shootings would still be just as common.
You wouldn't solve anything by that action alone.
You'd be amazed at how just making something take a little more effort, thought and time can stop people making terrible decisions.

Only selling paracetamol in blister packets of 16 dropped the amount of suicide by paracetamol overdose by 20% in the UK.

If handguns are so effective why it the AR the preferred style of mass shooters?

I’ll reverse the correlation v causation. You conclude the drop in mass shootings when ban enacted and the subsequent rise after it expired were not in anyway related.

What were the downsides of letting the ban expire vs the upsides of leaving it on? IMO we made the wrong decision.

I don't agree. For starters, I seriously doubt the US as a country survives til that time.

You're also grossly underestimating youth and guns. I know shitloads of younger people that are fucking obsessed with guns. It got started 2 ways, either gun-nut family members and/or video games (them obsessing over their Call of Duty "loadouts" and the like). The percentage of them buying guns might be lower, but the ones buying are more obsessed with them than even these older gun owners (who viewed them more as tools or occasional fun at the shooting range).

Anytime he gets called out he just attacks the other person's "unconscious feelings." It's the ultimate straw man.

Its because his brain is desperately calling out for help. He hates himself, because he's so consumed by fear. Its why he's been seeking guidance, unfortunately all he found was pathetically broken man-children like JP who is teaching people like Moonie to turn their hatred outwards, which to his credit, Moonie mostly sees through, but unfortunately he can't overcome the near constant fearmongering by the right wingers (whilst they tell people that legitimate fears are all made up or should be dealt with by psychotic violence).

Shooter found dead, most likely self inflicted.

Thanks for the on-topic update. Apparently I need to look, how did he get out of the house? (Last I'd heard he had barricaded himself in his home with police and FBI surrounding it.) Or was that not the right guy?

32 people just died in Egypt in a highway pileup. Clearly guns are not the problem :colbert:
