Turn him in? I can't believe you guys are saying this. Let the system figure him out, it?s none of your business Mcgrouff. Get a life your b1tching about movies here, your willing to screw up this guy?s family over DVD?s? I want to turn you in for stealing music mp3's, who do i call? By the way each movie costs neflix less than 2 dollars, on top of that its an expected overhead so its not a big deal to them. But go ahead turn him YOUR A HERO!

without reading 6 pages of arguments about a thieving mailman...i say turn him in. if he was stealing anything else this wouldnt be a question to ask, why is it now? youd think netflix would notice a huge number of dvds reported as missing in one zip code though, but if this guy was keeping peoples orders from newegg or amazon nobody would be happy with it.

if some of you knew he was stealing ram you ordered, or that new ipod you had shipped last week and was try to resell it all i dont think anyone would hesitate to turn him in. its a crime, his familys income isnt the responsibility of netflix or anyone else.

turn him in

hmmm..... then that would make me an accomplice

Sorry, I thought every thread tonight was required to referance SW:III. Contact the proper authorities, there's no way to rationalize pure theft.

The problem is this guy knows where I live and they might retaliate or try to get even for me turning him in.

so post his details here...I am sure a thousand other ppl will volunteer to turn him in instead

I am just mystified by this kind of attitude. I hope it serves you well when the mailman steals your shipment from Amazon.com, your new CPU from Newegg, or your latest purchase from eBay.

So, for you it's a steal-and-let-steal way of life, eh? I imagine you'd feel differently if he pilfered your birthday cash or Christmas presents.

I just can't understand people who think grand larceny is OK. This asshole mailman should be fired and prosecuted, and it's in no way a close call.

Some people have more of an affinity for human beings than corporate entitites.

I think this is a funny thread, in that I am sure a bunch of the people that posted turn him in, have dl'ed music and have copied movies. Its not crackead and drugaddicts that buy dvd burners and dvd-rw's.

p.s Big difference between stealing a kids piggybank and looting netflix dvd's.

Not legally there isn't. I can't imagine this mailman differentiates either, and given his apparently comprehensive lack of ethics, I fail to see why anyone would presume he's above stealing birthday cards and the occasional package from Amazon.com. Also, every DVD he steals requires the Netflix customer to go through the complaint process - I imagine if he's stolen thousands of them, at least some people have ended up repaying Netflix for the theft.

This simply cannot be justified. It's unethical, illegal behavior, and he should be prosecuted. I find it almost unbelievable that people here feel that passing a civil service exam should give a person a license to steal.

If this guy is stealing Netflix movies by the hundreds, I doubt he would mind stealing packages, etc. eventually (an amazon book occasionally around Xmas time when there are a ton of them). Other postal guys see this guy get away with it and start stealing also IMO. I say tell Netflix about what you saw and let them handle it from there.

I can't believe some of the low-life piece of cr@ps around here that seem to think stealing is acceptable. My opinion of many around here just went WAY down. No wonder the FS/FT forums has so many scumbag trolls now. Apparently, it's now ok to steal. The funny part is these will be the same people coming and whining about how xyz got stolen from them... You're the vaginal cleansing fluid container for suggesting that a PUBLIC SERVANT should be allowed to just go about his "business" of SELLING STOLEN GOODS. What he stole, and who it was from is irrelevant. Period. Speaking of Jesus Christ, I seem to remember something about "Thou shalt not steal" from somewhere... There's a good book about him you might want to read.

I think that's a completely glib, intellectually lazy answer. Every Netflix customer (and, for that matter, every postal customer) is effectively paying for this guy's theft, and this is in no way vitiated by the fact that the direct victim is a corporation. Although the OP clearly has no legal obligation to turn this postman in, to me it's a moral imperative.

Under your alternative course of action, your neighbors should, if they see your house being broken into, shrug and say "meh - that's his problem - he probably has insurance."

I remain disappointed that our culture has become dominated by what I regard as a me-first/your-problem-is-not-my-problem mentality. I see this situation as an example of that.

I am just not lucky enough to be able to spend my days on the phone with the cops.In my neighborhood I count it as a blessing to be able to walk to my apt with my head down and chin up safely.I mind my own business because I HAVE to.

There's a big difference in downloading a movie and stealing one out of a mailbox.
It's like this: If I download a movie you own on DVD, you still have your movie and are able to use and enjoy it. But if I take the physical DVD you own, you lose the use and enjoyment of the movie.

didn;t read through the entire thread, but i would def. turn him in. i always get pissed / worried that my mail has been tampered with. luckily the current mailman is really good, but i hate it when magazines come in all messed up (not like thats the same as mail theft).

on a similar note, my barber bootlegs movies he downloads and charges $5 bucks for each dvd. he was even showing the episode 3 leak on the tv in his shop friday afternoon! besides the moral implications (imo private viewing is more plausible than selling for profit), i would have hated to get my hair cut by him since he stepped every couple of minutes aside while cutting hair when ppl came in to look/ask for movies.

Dunno about the OP or postmaster, but I sent a link to this thread to netflix, and received a reply from a customer service person that it has been sent to the people at netflix who deal with that sort of thing. My reasons were numerous:

1. The OP seemed to be contemplating taking the issue up with the postmaster, but I feel that taking it up with netflix is far more likely to result in actual action

2. I have been a netflix customer for several years, and know the hassle involved in reporting a lost DVD. You get flagged by netflix if enough go missing.

3. But more importantly, if I'm paying $13 per month for 2 dvds out at a time and I basically lose the ability to get a dvd for a couple of weeks, someone has basically stolen a few dollars from me, and then the guy is turning around and SELLING the dvds. So he takes $2-$3 from someone, makes $2-$3, and all allegedly to pay for his kids. Many people have expenses of their own.

4. I have a strong loyalty to netflix, who was a pioneer in online rentals, who spends lots of money to increase their infrastructure, who has way less than 24 hour turn around on customer service, who has yet to send me an unplayable dvd, who has every dvd I've ever sought (except for newer editions of dvds that they have already), etc.
