That's rough.

Don't buy any of them, that's for sure. Tell him why you're not going to buy any, too, and tell him that he'd better freaking knock it off, too, because $3 a movie is NOT worth losing a good job with bennies and going to prison. It's so ridiculous, I almost can't believe it. I mean, damn, that's just... idiotic. I wouldn't turn him in, though, because he's going to get caught. Like NetFlix isn't going to notice that the majority of the movies it sends to that region/city/ZIP code/whatever go missing? Hell, he's going to get caught without your help. I'm sure NetFlix has already contacted the Postmaster General.

First rule about stealing: it's simply wrong. Way wrong. Horrid, low-class sh!t. Bad. Bad. Bad.

Second rule: If the haul isn't enough so you can retire and run away to Brazil or Africa or some tropical island, don't bother!

If you don't want the guilt of turning him in and wrecking the 15 year old's entire early adulthood, yet you still think it's wrong, then don't get involved, and don't buy the stolen property; simply rest assured that he's going to go to jail anyway, without any help from you.

</anti-stupidity, anti-stealing rant>

well said.

That b@stard! It's mailmen like HIM that are the cause of my DVD movies 1) being real late showing up to Netflix and 2) Not showing up at all!

I always wondered about that crap. Turn the @ss in to the feds........

Good lord! Do NOT BUY THEM! If you do, you are knowingly buying stolen goods! That can send YOU to jail too.

Anybody call the HOU PI yet and link them to this thread? 😉

hmmm..... then that would make me an accomplice

Sorry, I thought every thread tonight was required to referance SW:III. Contact the proper authorities, there's no way to rationalize pure theft.

The problem is this guy knows where I live and they might retaliate or try to get even for me turning him in.

and how would he do that when EACH case of tampering is 20 years in PMINA prison...
and apparently hes got 1000s... thats life in leavenworth kansas making big rocks into little rocks..

I think that if they're that hard off, all the boys should be working. Hell, the 20 and 22 year olds aren't even in high school anymore. They have no fvcking excuse for stealing and fencing from the USPS.

It all comes down to this: as a society, we must hold people in certain positions to a high level of integrity. Doctors must not do harm to their patients, police officers must not abuse their power, and the postal service must not employ those who steal mail from the public. I don't care what sorry assed excuse he has, it is unacceptible ALWAYS and must not be tolerated EVER. If people who do this get slapped on the wrist or everyone covers up for them, then the problem will spread. We put our trust in the USPS, they should do everything in their power to keep that trust.

Man...don't turn him in. Let the man have his hustle. Netflix is a big enough company anyway.

what level of success is required of a company before it's acceptable to steal from them? are we talking $10 million a year, $100 million a year?

I love all these people rationalizing STEALING because of the size of the company. WTF people? Are your morals really that low?

"When you control the mail, you control information." - Newman from seinfeld

Hehe, i just remember that quote cuz newman made this hillarious insidious face when he said it.

I don't have problems if the mailman reads my magazines but stealing the dvds is wrong. even when Netflix or whatever online rental company chalks it up as losted in the mail system I feel bad for them plus I don't want that to be on my account. I'm sure they'll let one go but when tons start disappearing under your account it looks bad and I'm screwed.

but part of me thinks this a bullshit story.

seriously "boxes" of missing dvds would be something Netflix and that post office would pick up on. I'm sure netflix does some check up on zip codes of members who claim they the post office lost it.

At a central mail facility it would be easy and hard to track. I see nothing about the story that is suspect. And my local post office has never been able to track the source of our missing mail (me and my neighbors).

It depends how long it took him to get that many DVD's. The OP apparently found out about this activity only recently. The mailman could've been doing this for years. If he was on the right route, he could swipe an entire box going to the local Netflix office from national headquarters. There's at least hundreds in one of those boxes.

Can you imagine the PITA problems this guy has caused for Netflix and their customers? Turn his ass in, period.

Is what he is doing directly hurting you or majorly hurting anyone else, I'd say no. So by turning him in, you're snitching. there was a movie put out here in Baltimore a few months back called stop snitching. It basically said that snitches should have holes put in your head...

This is not a simple issue - it is technically a federal crime (and damn well should be). It costs Netflix thousands of dollars, and undermines trust in the entire postal system. Why are you even asking?

He's hurting every customer of Netflix who have to deal with missing DVDs and higher prices.
He's hurting Netflix's employees, stockholders, and ability to continue operating. (and innovating)
He's hurting his children by setting a horrible example.
He's hurting himself and anything he values by living the life of a thief.

I cannot think of a single respected philosophy or way of life that could condone his actions.

I would recommend waiting a nice chunk of time before turning him in. That way there is less to link you to the event when his sons starting looking for someone to blame for their father's theft.
