What is it? An expansion set, of Ninth Edition?

It's an expansion. Second set in the newest grouping (they come out in 3s). I think Dark Steel was the last one. I see ads for them in my comic books. :p

What is it called? Is it the one that is reminiscent of the Legend of the Five Rings game? Basically Far East stuff?

They've been artifacts heavy sets. Looks like it might be dark steel.

Not positive though.

EDIT: I'm way off. Looks like you were right. Champions of Kamigawa. Not sure where the 3rd set of Mirrodin cards is though...

EDIT 2: Fifth dawn is the 3rd set in the mirrodin block. :p

I don't get most of what you just said, but I think I am starting to understand it. I never played Magic before. When I first got into it during Revised I was collecting it simply for the artwork and the fact that I thought it was interesting. I am only just now learning how to play. :p

Last question, then off to play City Of Heroes for a bit. Am I correct in that there is a black bordered foil card being issued of every card in Eighth Edition, so that if one wanted to spend copious amounts of money it would be possible to have an entire black bordered foil set of Eighth Edition?

There are foils. I think they are black bordered. I'd have to check, but that's not going to happen (my cards are at my mom's :p). But there should be a foil of every card, so yeah you could collect them all.

Ok the sets work something like:
core -8th edition
Block: 3 expansion sets:
1 larger
2 smaller

Each block can be played by itself. Type 2 also allows core and I think the last 2 blocks to be used. Type 1 allows everything (minus banned cards, and with restricted cards). Type 1.5 allows most cards, but has a more restrictive ban list than type 1.

magic has gotten all crappy after they kept adding sets too fast. i'm not sure when it really started going downhill, but the new border is what pushed me over the limit to stop playing. i dont and didnt spend mondy on cards, i just traded constantly. one day, my cards got stolen, a friend gave me 3 rares, nto very good ones eitehr. i traded and 8 months later i had a full binder, thout spending a dime (actually profit becasue i sold some of em), but thats just my cheap story. i hate magic n00bs, especially the ones who argue with the older players about rules. i entirely agree about the cardboard crack statement !!!!

I used to play and used to own. I could beat just about anyone straight up, but what sucks about the game is that the kid who's mommy paid for four of the killer card of the month always wins. At work we would just throw 1000 crappy cards into a pile and grab 60 blind to make a deck. It took real skill and creativity to win when you don't have the cheap-ass cards.

n0cmonkey - The right move is I remove Counterspell from the game to cast to Misdirection and point the Fireball at you. Much cooler than just countering it.

Michael

ps - ChK prerelease was today in Singapore (where I live now otday for you). Japanese-themed set with a war between spirits and human-folk. The last base set was Mirrodin which was artifact-themed. The big news is that Birds of Paradise will be rotated out of the 9th edition and then reprinted with black-borders in the next base set.

As for the complaint of when the sets come out - one base set a year - not too far off what it used to be except at the very beginning.

I like the game, but I rarely play anymore. I don't find the old good cards frustrating, I find the brand new cards, like the Mirrodin set frustrating. WTF is equipment?!?!

well i'm not going to read any posts i'm just going to make one reply

there was a guy at this card shop, more money than skills. had over 10k cards easy. me and my friend were both in high school. spent bout 200 bucks each, and would consistently destroy him

it's not really about money, if you know your cards and can build the right decks you win

I played in high school about 9 years ago, I had cards from revised to Alliances and then quit sometime during college when I couldnt find people to play with, and too many new cards and rules came up (phasing?). Ironically, I was at Borders the other day and saw an encyclopedia of MTG with a picture of all of the new cards, there's too many too keep track of now!

Played for alittle during 8th and 9th grade (5-6 yrs ago), but got tired of it after that. I only had a few hundred cards and they're all lost/trashed now.

Yup, too expensive for me to have kept up with. I play occassionally with a friend of mine who still plays a lot, but I haven't bought any more cards in years.

I should really look through my cards and sell them. Some of them might be quasi-valuable (a few dual-lands, some foils, 3rd editions, etc).

i played about 9 years ago, all thru 7th and 8th grade, stopped in 9th(didnt want high school kids making fun of me, haha) then after graduating i picked up yugioh.

yugioh, to me, seems like a rip off MtG, but it also seems a lot funner(i know). no more mana to worry about, just pure card playing action

anybody else play yugioh AND magic? what do you think about the difference between the two
