The full game still has the same glitch as the demo, when I exit the game the brightness of my LCD monitor drops to 10%. I have to hit ctrl+alt+del then go back to windows.....not that big of a problem but annoying.

Try updating your ATI Drivers to 10.8

I've put a few hours into this game and it is great. Loving it. Not sure what the fuck Eurogamer were smoking giving it 4 out of 10. Then again they gave Dragon Age a 6 so who knows what they're thinking.

I have the newest drivers installed and am still seeing this issue (along with a bug where everything is invisible unless I enable AA in-game).

Indeed. I looked through their reviews and I think they gave the original Mafia a 4/10 as well. I may be a bit naive, but I don't see how a game of this stature can get anything less than a 6 with all the other garbage out there. Granted, I haven't started playing it yet (and am hoping I like it).

so far this game seems to be getting universally bad reviews... this is sad news. loved the first one and loved the demo for the second. so far the only thing i've taken at all seriously from the reviews is that it's EXTREMELY short.

we'll see...

I love how you people let reviews dictate your life. I've never once read a review before buying a game I've researched, and I've never once regretted a purchase I've made on a brand new videogame. I laugh at people who see one bad review and say "guess I'll skip it".

There's more than one negative review for Mafia II. I like to make my own decisions, too. But for those of us who can't afford to buy every game going and to find out for ourselves, reviews are at least a little guidance. I tend to read reviews and try not to take them as law, but to read several and think it over based on my preferences and what I know of the reviewer.

I could barely afford this - I have about $13 left to spend because of it. But I researched it, and wanted it, so I pre-ordered it. I played the first, loved it. Much like many others. And I knew the second would have a great story like the first, so I bought it. And I was correct. I could give a shit less if it lasted 5 hours, the game was awesome throughout. 5 hours of my time on normal mode is worth that much money to me for a game that I see a developer has worked hard on to complete. And especially with the PC elitist peeps claiming "oh nobody cares about PC anymore"- 2k worked hard to make the PC version nice, and the work they have done obviously shows through.

So whatever, you guys can miss out on it, I don't give a fuck honestly. But I do find it funny that people let reviews dictate their purchases.

I'm not missing out, I have the game. By the way, how do you research a game you are interested in without reading a review? By reading previews only? When I watch videos of games or read previews, they only build hype. How do you know if it lives up to the hype upon release? Reviews or just leaping in blindly. I'd say you're part of a lucky minority if you've never regretted a game purchase.

How do I research a game? Have you not heard of developer diaries, screenshots, previews, gameplay videos, etc. etc? I can EASILY see if a game is worth my time by watching a few gameplay videos and reading a preview or two. I don't leap in blindly - only a fool does. And here, you're not even taking into account that the original Mafia was a masterpiece, and that got the same shitty reviews from places like Eurogamer. 4/10 my fucking ass. Just one more reason I can have a laugh at people who let reviews dictate their purchases.

But like he said, reviews HELP you in your purchase. This game is getting MANY bad reviews not just one or two.

Some of those bad reviews are just poor though. Comparing the game to GTA4 when it is NOTHING like that game. And don't forget those idiots at EuroGamer also gave the original Mafia a 4 out of 10.

I've almost finished and imo if you enjoyed Mafia then you will enjoy Mafia 2. It's more of the same.

I don't go solely on critics reviews, but I compare them to user reviews to gauge overall quality/satisfaction. Based on that, Mafia II looks pretty good (79 vs 7.4). Compare that to a joke of a game like Far Cry 2 (85 vs 5.5) and I'll gladly take Mafia II any day.

i won't judge it from 1 review, but an overall score from metacritics is a good way to gauge a game's worthiness.

Gave it a few hours. Been fun so far, nothing spectacular. I hate slow, "meet the parents" beginnings. Kills the relay value for me when I know I have to sloth through an hour of shit before I get to the 'fun' stuff.

It's more of a rental, but I got it for PC just because I have a system capable of running it on high.

Chapter 14 was terrible and almost ruined the game for me. It has two game breaking bugs and is easily the longest chapter in the entire game.

I'm through 5 chapters and am happy so far. As so many others have said... When you compare this game to GTA, it may seem a bit under-developed (but a tad more polished - the driving is actually fantastic, I find myself mesmerized by the way tires deform under stress), but compare it to any typical first/third-person shooter and it looks very good. The storytelling is great, and the open world makes the game feel more cohesive.

I may be a bit biased (I *want* to like this game), but I can't see rating it as less than a 7.5/10 as so many have.

I love how time changes in the city as the years go by. Really awesome concept. Game doesn't feel very short either.
