Yeah true, I'd suggest you put the biggest issues up on the suggestion page they have for windows phone, not sure how much it'll actually help but I think they do look at it.

I agree with Ikailburn too, if MS tweaked a lot of little things it could have a really great mobile OS. Hopefully now that they've gotten WP8 out they can focus on polishing some stuff for the next version.

where is said "suggestion b ox"? i have a ton of little ones

Thanks. Just voted on every single little tweak i've asked about here, and also posted up my own(about maintaining browser history on a per tab basis after exiting IE). Go vote on it!

One of the little things I've noticed since the transition from the iPhone 4 is the auto-brightness. Or rather how the implementation of auto-brightness on the iPhone absolutely sucks:

http://www.displaymate.com/AutoBrightness_Controls_2.htm:

iPhone 4 Auto-Brightness Bug

One behavior of the iPhone 4 Auto-Brightness that is a serious operational error or bug is that it locks onto the brightest ambient light sensor value that it has measured at any point starting from the time it was turned on, and then continues to use that highest value indefinitely to set the screen brightness until the display turns off – either by cycling through sleep mode or full power off. This means that the screen brightness is frequently set too high, which wastes power and can cause eye strain if you move to lower ambient light levels. Auto-Brightness should always follow the current ambient light level (with appropriate time averaging and filtering). Apple should correct this with a software update. To easily verify this behavior with your own iPhone turn On Auto-Brightness under Settings and set the Brightness slider near the middle of its range. Go to a very dark location. Click the sleep/wake button on the top of the phone to turn the display off. Then wake it up with the sleep/wake button or the Home button. Note the screen brightness in the dark. Now take the phone to a very bright outdoor location (such as in direct sunlight) then go back (with the display on) to your original dark location and monitor the screen brightness. The display will remain at very high brightness indefinitely until the iPhone enters sleep mode again (or runs out of battery). What’s even more shocking is that BrightnessGate is even worse on Android phones…

I'd assume that the Ip5 has that problem fixed already, but the lumia 920 so far is working great, adapting to the proper brightness necessary for viewing (and no further). As a result, it produces the impressive feat of maintaining the same relative brightness, in a huge range of background lighting intensities.

Unfortunately since neither AT&T nor Nokia have any clue how to market their phones (based on their recent ads, compared to iPhone's ads or Sausmung snarky effort), none of the public will care either way.

I mean, here's an ad script that I came up in 30 seconds:

2 mountaineering guys in a blizzard, wearing gloves
A: "When's the storm going to let up? ... (uses competitor phone) - shoot, I can't see anything in this"
(Tries to use phone with gloves on) - or use it
B: "Let me see ... (closeup shot of 920) / text on side:
Super-sensitive touch screen
Puremotion HD display with ClearBlack

Pulls up home screen / weather live tile
"It'll let up within the hour"
A: "Cool man, wanna hit up the bar later?"

Tagline: "The Nokia Lumia 920 - are you a professional?"

Microsoft's Windows Phone commercials are actually quite good. They show off the phone, the platform, and celebrities keep people interested. A+

does the 920 have more brightness settings then just low med and high? I noticed on day one that it was actively changing brightness levels which was great compared to my iphone which as mentioned, rarely changed brightness levels.
However on the second day i noticed that with auto brightness it was always too dim for my eyes. Since then i have just set it to medium and am sort of ok with it but just wondering what others have experienced.

Since I'm in a negative mood I'll bitch about a few more app related things (Nokia Apps)

On Sunday night I downloaded a couple offline mix stations from the Nokia Music app** So Monday morning I get into the car to play it** Get a Message "sorry, you need to refresh your collection to do licensing"** What the eff? It wasn't even 12 hours old**

So I refresh the stations at work in the morning** An update ***es across later yesterday afternoon for Nokia music so I apply it** My live tiles still have the stations pinned** So I get out to the car and try to fire up my music** Music not found** What? So I go into the app and look** The update deleted all of my offline content** Bleh**

And that doesn't even include the 15 times I've had to unlock my screen to allow the cached stations to fully download due to the wifi issue on the lock**

Along with that update yesterday was one for the ESPN fantasy football app** So I take it** I go to sign in this morning and it can't find my teams** I sign out, and back in** Still can't find my teams** So I delete the app and go to reinstall it** It's no longer in the store**

Uhg**

This was an absolutely critical launch and it's been really, really bumpy at best**

dang sorry to hear about that** That must have been what wiped out my nokia mix i downloaded for offline use(the nokia music app update)** I was wondering where it want**

Thankfully i do not have your same wifi off at lock issue** I downloaded a station yesterday and it continued whether i locked the screen, let it auto lock, or switched to other apps**

Sorry bro, hope your experience gets better!

And one other thing I noticed that was a major miss on MS's part******somebody help me out here if I'm wrong**

In One Note there's a mic button you can hit** I was *HOPING* this would be a dictate button so I could just talk to the device and it would transcribe what I want** That doesn't appear to be the case** It just makes a **wav file that is embedded in the document** Lame** I'd love to be able to dictate a shopping or to-do list instead of typing**

🙁

That right there would be an awesome feature! I used my last vote on it:
EDIT: What's up with URL links on this forum now? They are all **** out?

Hasn't been since Windows Mobile** You really shouldn't be at a loss, it's been known (bitched about) and Microsoft won't do a thing about it** Apparently you're in a small minority 😉**

Direct sync is possible, but requires a third-party program** I use Akruto Sync to sync my Lumia 900 with my PC** It allows my phone to connect directly to my PC and sync contacts, calendar, and tasks, without going through the "cloud"** Their web-site says that it works with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8**

I am thinking of upgrading to Lumia 920 and intend to continue using Akruto to sync** Microsoft, indeed, stopped offering direct sync when they release Windows Phone, but you can still sync directly using Akruto Sync**

Another question on One Note** Is there any way to create a new notebook on the phone itself? There's some precanned ones and another I had published to my Skydrive** But I can see no way to create a new one from the phone side**

Again******another swing and miss if that's the case**

Doesn't look like you can do it, I wonder why they left that out doesn't seem like something that would be hard to add**

Microsoft is the king of creating something really freaking handy and then kneecapping it by forgetting a very basic function.

Example: Snipping tool in Win7. It's awesome for screenshotting. But somehow someone never thought to think "oh hey! somebody might want to print that screenshot sometime..maybe I should include a print option in the menu!". /facepalm.

Same thing with this. All they need is a "+" there on the home screen to add a new one. As it is, I do not see a single way to create notes on this device without a different app. I can create new Word and Excel documents in the Office Hub. But a note option isn't there and it's not available in One Note.

Again I have to ask....HTF does something like this make it through product testing. Did no one *EVER* need to create a new note?

wait what exactly are you asking?

How to create a new note.

Here's the how to for WinPo7:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp7/office/use-office-onenote-mobile

You can create a new note from the office hub.

But in Win8 it tells you to do this:
http://www.windowsphone.com/en-US/how-to/wp8/office/use-onenote-mobile

But it looks like this:
https://skydrive.live.com/?sc=photo...cid=E46BB480E134A82A&id=E46BB480E134A82A!2803

It only lets you manage precanned selections or ones created elsewhere and uploaded to the skydrive.

You have to be in a section in a notebook to make new notes.

I understand that, but it makes absolutely zero sense. You *SHOULD* be able to create a new notebook (or note in general) without having to nest within an existing one.

There needs to be a "quick note" function where I can just create a note on the fly without needing 4-5 taps to get there and nested within an existing notebook.

One thing to say up front is that with WP7.5, OneNote was built into the Office app. With WP8, OneNote has been completely separated from Office into its own app.

With that said, I just checked the WP8 OneNote app and I see absolutely no way to create a new notebook, just new notes within the notebooks. The first WP8 link you provided is to create a new note, while your own screenshot is at the notebook view.

Yeah the + only shows up when you're at the section view or looking at a note. As a workaround the web app for skydrive lets you make notebooks and sections, so if you really need to do it on your phone you can. I don't see the point of leaving it out of the app tho, at least there is a way around it until they (hopefully) add it in.

How do you get to that screen? Just open one note and it's there? I wonder if syncing with my Skydrive acct killed it somehow.

🙁

When i open my app it says Quick Notes and has 3 sample note's i guess. When looking at the list of the 3 sample notes, or when vieiwng a sample note i have the plus sign to create a new note. But maybe you are asking something different when you say "notebook" vs "note" ?

You're opening directly inside of a notebook that already exists. The hierarchy is that notebooks are your top level, you can have as many notebooks as you want. Inside of each notebook are your individual notes (the samples you are seeing). When you launch OneNote, it's putting you directly inside of the default notebook that comes created with the app to get you started. If you touch the name at the top, it will take you back to your notebook view.

The problem he's running into is that it will not let him create a new notebook inside the app, but creating new notes inside already existing notebooks is already there.
