It was the busiest store in the mall this christmas. What's the big deal with those bags? They don't even have pockets inside some of them. Is it worth the 500-1000 bucks? Ladies?

Anyone buy one for their significant other for christmas?

They're status symbols. Like why the hell would you buy a rolex? It's a fsking watch.

You buy it because you can afford it, not because of it's quality.

LV leather goods are extremely well-made, classic in design, and will last forever. However, they are over-priced and one could find a less expensive alternative.

its a status/image thing.

i would never in my right mind buy myself a wallet or anything in that store. needless to say, a couple of christmas's ago, my gf buys me a $300 wallet from LV. it's nice, but not worth it imo, when i could get a cheap foldout for $20.

I think they are cool handbags but very played out. It seems like in order to be "in style" yuo need a LV.
I am happy with my Coach purses that are half the money and have a life-time guarentee!

Why did I see that response coming from you...

I was surprised to see how many women have LV bags in the mall... I wonder how many of them are real and how many are fake.

Well, it's true. They're over-priced from the "leather handbag point-of-view," but in-line with the cost of other status symbols. Why buy a Rolex instead of a Timex? It's a well-made status symbol. If you've got the dosh, you might as well have the bling.

I saw very many people who don't look like they have the dough but carry LV bags.

I'd say that 98% of the LV one sees in a suburban mall are fake.

I went to 3 LV stores last week, Century City, Beverley Center and South Coast Plaza. I asked the sales person what's the difference between the Coach bags and LV, what makes it so special. Their reply is, "I don't know anything about Coach bags". I also asked them to tell me about a certain bag, the person said "$598", nothing else... she had nothing to say or didn't know anything about what she was selling... pretty pricey for a product their sales reps can't even tell you about. I guess they sell themselves, or maybe it's the Jessica Simpson effect.

The REAL status symbol would be to buy one and burn it in front of everyone 🙂

And there are more expensive bags. I can't remember the name cause I'm not all that into them, but there's one company that makes bags starting at $5000 and go up to $30000.

For $30k it better have wheels.

you are correct in both aspects. What ticks me off is that the way the sales person asnwered you is very normal in that store... its as though they are bothered by any questions and that you should not even have any questions...just buy the bag and leave. Personally, when i buy a high ticket item, i expect the sales people to kiss my butt while i am there. I guess they feel they dont ahve to know anything about them because most people that buy them wont have any real questions about them.

lol, i like laughing at people who spend money on status symbols. i like buying stuff that performs a real function, has solid build quality, and is economical.

but what do i know?

A Rolex, or other premium watch, has mechanical merits as well as name. You pay for reputation when you get a watch. I'd love to get an Omega but I'll settle for the Tag my gf got me😉😀

Agreed. Street vendors selling counterfeit LV bags are all over the place in Manhattan.
