Was on vacation to france, and hit the real LV store, got pics too.. on vacation to London, hit the Burberry store... woman loves these things... I bought a BBerry wallet for my co-worker.. cost 300, and she loved it to hell.. got the wife a Hermes wallet, cost 1k, a wallet, not a bag, a Hermes bag is like 3000-5000, some of it even hits 17,000. I know a lot of friends that owe money on their CC just to buy these expensive bags..

Good thing is every time I want to buy something nice for me like the sli mobo I just picked up today, I be like, hey doesn't ur wallet cost 1k, my sli board only cost 200

You buy it because you can afford it, not because of it's quality.

A Rolex, or other premium watch, has mechanical merits as well as name. You pay for reputation when you get a watch. I'd love to get an Omega but I'll settle for the Tag my gf got me;):D

Exactly... I wouldn't buy rolex.. I can afford it but damn, a 10k, what if i get mugged.. I got a 2k Tag and I want that Omega seamaster, its around 1250 ish.. just gonna decide when to take the plunge.. There are some real watch maker I saw on MSNBC that charges 750,000 for a watch.. for that price, I rather buy a ferrari or two

I am happy with my Coach purses that are half the money and have a life-time guarentee!

Coach ain cheap either ;p

I went to 3 LV stores last week, Century City, Beverley Center and South Coast Plaza. I asked the sales person what's the difference between the Coach bags and LV, what makes it so special. Their reply is, "I don't know anything about Coach bags". I also asked them to tell me about a certain bag, the person said "$598", nothing else... she had nothing to say or didn't know anything about what she was selling... pretty pricey for a product their sales reps can't even tell you about. I guess they sell themselves, or maybe it's the Jessica Simpson effect.

you are correct in both aspects. What ticks me off is that the way the sales person asnwered you is very normal in that store... its as though they are bothered by any questions and that you should not even have any questions...just buy the bag and leave. Personally, when i buy a high ticket item, i expect the sales people to kiss my butt while i am there. I guess they feel they dont ahve to know anything about them because most people that buy them wont have any real questions about them.

Yeah man, I wasn't confortable in there. It's like they have a "NO BROWSING ALLOWED" policy. After thier initial, "may I help you?", they expect you to leave if you say "No, just looking".

Seamaster is awesome but I see two problems; a bit played out because of Bond and its too big for my small wrists:(

Thats why I love shopping at the Burberry store. Day after X-Mas I went and bought a suit, nice shirt and coat, and they treat you real nice. I love that store.

I'm eyeing the Seamaster too, the black one, not the James Bond blue one.

I heard on the radio that the designer hand bags are the hottest item this holiday season. The LV bags used to be the thing for rich women but now women from all economic statuses want one. I feel sorry for the suckers who have to buy one for them.

No.

i have a friend who bought one in italy, and she's always paranoid about people thinking it's a fake. what's the point of buying something if it makes you anxious and unhappy to carry it around? most pointless thing ever. and it's not even that cool.

Yeah. Chinatown you can get any one of those bags for like $10 and chances are no Joe in any public place will be able to tell the difference if you get a good enough one.

My mom bough some LV purses around 10 years ago. The last time I saw them (in June), they were still in really good condition.
I think that shows good quality. Some people will pay more for quality...

But she probably takes better care of them because of the cost;)

/agreed

But they are also very much status symbols.

On a side note, I bought the wife a Coach bag ($278) and her mom got her a Kate Spade bag ($355) for xmas. My wife is a purse whore :Q

edit: but she has said she'd never buy a LV.

those bags really don't depreciate as well. you can probably put that bag up on ebay and get retail price for it.

That LV pattern that is so common is really ugly. Not that I pay *that* much attention to handbags, but Kate Spade looks a lot nicer than LV.

the actual leather they use is quite a bit more expensive than other brands. i remember a while back when some rapper wanted to bling his car by having the interior reupholstered with LV leather. i believe to just buy the leather it was way too expensive that the rapped ended up just buying a ton of bags and taking the leather from them

rolex and other higher end watches actually appreciate in value. people pay for the quality and craftsmanship

Yeah, Thats the way it is in Alpha Omega, Tiffany, Gucci, LV, Burbery, and Coach to a lesser extent.

Also, they ignore you and instead service the guys in business suits - even if they end up not buying anything. The second their eye catches on my platinum visa, they change their attitude a little bit - with the fake smile that makes me wanna tell them to go die in a fire.
