ok, saw it, total movie was 3.5 hours. I loved the first 30 minutes of it, it was everything i expected it to be. the last 30 minutes SUCKED. SUCKED I tell you.

Did they change the ending from the book?

yes they did. a little. overall peter jackson was as true to the books as he could have been in my opinion.

i think PJ SHOULD have done this as a 5 movie series not 3.

1. The Hobbit
2,3,4 LOTR series EXCEPT take the last 30 minutes of of ROTK and put it in:
5. could have been a 1.5 hr movie with Battle at the shire and the ending from ROTK.

Well in short, I absolutely loved the movie. I had no problems whatsoever with the ending either, as I thought it was very apropos and well done. Longer review to come later, as I had 4 hours to sleep before coming into work today. yaaay.

An aside: Has the word "apropos" come into vogue because of The Matrix movie? I've never heard it used before that movie, and now I see it every once in a while.

What's with the spoiler warning? How old are the books again? Geez, everyone knows they do what they needed to to save the world.

Just because the books are old doesn't mean that everyone has read them.

/* Spoiler

i didn't like the fact that jackson didn't include the fact that Sam wore the ring

and i was WAITING to see Merry and Pippin as super tall hobbits from drinking the Ent water stuff.

oh well...

I could not get over all of the sapp in this movie. I seriously thought all of the hobbits were going to get together and do eachother. Yes, they may be simple loving creatures but they sure as hell didn't come off this gay in the books. Overall I thought the movie was just pretty good. Although my judgement could be skewed due to the 15 year old girls in front of me that would scream as loud as they could whenever Aragorn or Legolas did anything. I am still pissed about that.

ya. the only character in this movie that i really didn't like was Frodo. I hated Elijah Wood as frodo, i thought "Rudy" was GREAT as Sam, to me "rudy" is now and forever Sam. and Merry and Pippen were good too.

but Frodo was too gay.

A bit late, but i had school after i saw it. Best movie i have ever seen, period. Would have liked to see scouring of the shire, and sam using ring, also it didn't show how legolas and Gimli went on last ship to the Undying Lands, extended needs like 2 more hours to fix that, but still amazing, one thing i don't get, was that Aragorn should have used undead army, and invaded mordor with it, it wasn't in book, but still would have been cool, also, not sure about this, but i don't recal Eowyn stabbing the Witchking in the face.

i don't remember how, but eowyn did contact one of the nine and was in the hospice for an extended stay in the book, that's how she met up with faramir and the two ended up marrying i believe.

Doesnt she stab a Nazgul in the heel?

from what i remember, merry gets him in calf, and thats what killed them, also merry wasn't in last battle, on acount of attacking the Nazgul like F*cked him up, same with Eowyn and Faramir

The last few mins confused me. It was almost like they ended the movie, but had to throw in some extra stuff to alude to future hobbit-based films. Overall, I rate the battles in this movie as being well put together, but I felt as though there was actually more fighting and suspense in the 2nd movie. I rate the trilogy....

1st Movie 8
2nd Movie 9
3rd Movie 8

A lot of my rating of the 3rd movie is based on the fact that there was completion, but again...there was confusion in the end if you ask me.

It was only confusing because it kept fading to black. The ending of the book was even longer. I think it's one of the best and most satisfying endings ever because we see how the characters settle down. I hate it when movies finish on a huge battle, show 2 minutes of people rejoicing and then just end on a sunset/sunrise... kind of like Matrix Revolutions.

Exactly. As I have been saying, there is no way you are going to satisfy everyone with the ending to a trilogy such as this. People are either gonna say it is too long, or too short.

it was alot worse in the book

i like peter jackson's version as much as i did tolkien's version, because why he left out a few good parts, he left out a buncha boring parts too

boring parts??
rolleye.gif
what boring parts??

again, i still felt that it would have been more complete as a series of 5 movies.

Return of the King should have been broken up into two parts and they should have made The Hobbit be the first movie.

that would have been AWESOME.

waaaaa. that was good. once i think about it and read the books again i am sure i will have more complaints, but i've been trying to not be as critical with this one as I was before, so my only real complaint is that yes the ending did seem kind of jumpy, so it will upset fans of the book because we know what was left out between those scenes and will upset people who have just seen the move as it keeps coming to one ending after another

the ending had to be done that way, as if it wasnt, then it wouldnt be true to the book.

and they did show grimli going to the undying lands.

battle scenes were awesome.

MIKE

I just got back from it. I liked it overall, but wanted to see more in-city fighting as I seem to remember the book having a lot more of it.
