Looks like I'll be going in for Lasik in the next week or two

I decided to go with Lasik Vision Institute. $3,000 for Custom Lasik w/Lifetime Enhancements if needed. I'm not too keen on the idea of someone opening a flap on my eyeball, but it's all going to be worth it in the end

I actually had LVI email me a coupon for $250 off per eye already, not too shabby. Thanks though.

$250 off per eye is pretty darn good. I may need this procedure in the future so hopefully I can find a decent coupon.

edit. Good Luck

20/15 in both eyes. It still amazes me how people would rather be slaves to glasses and contact lens just to see, rather then making one of the best investments in your life.

Yes, I totally agree. Did you go through LVI, or another center?

LasikMD, was about 1800$ total for both eyes in Canadian dollars (partly subsidized here).

Still too early...give it a few more years and there will be hella lawsuits and a buncha blind people. I can't trust someone to laser my eye.

Thanks though.

This procedure has been out for a long time, I know and have asked a lot of people about thier eyes before even deciding to consider it. I know people who have done this about 4-5 years ago and have not gone blind.

I had mine done 8-1/2 years ago. No problems at all, then or now. I highly recommend it.

I went in for my Pre-Op exam yesterday. It took about an hour. They dilated my eyes to measure my cornea size, checked my eye prescription, then put my eyes through a couple other machines which provided full scans of my eyes, to check for possible problems. My pupil size was also checked, along with my retinas.

According to the eye doctor's calculation, she said my left eye is borderline for lasik, because it would only leave 290 microns of cornea tissue post-op. They like to leave at least 300 (most likely for enhancements, if needed down the road). My right eye was okay though. She said she'll leave it for the surgeons to review, who will get back to me. If they think it's not a good idea, I'll have to go with PRK.

PRK seems like a really good alternative for me though. Healing time is longer than Lasik, but this process doesn't cut the nerve in the eye which helps produce tears, so dry eye post-op isn't as big of a worry. The results would be the same in the long run too. They were booked pretty far into the future, so I'm hoping after I hear from the surgeon, that I can fit in my surgery on December 8th. It'll cost around $3,000 whether it's Custom Lasik or Custom PRK. I can't wait!

I will continue to update for those interested.

some laser eye surgeries actually cut away layers of the cornea (not sure if they all do do it or just some). in which case, the cornea degrades further as you age, so its better to wait a little while before going through with laser eye surgery. my contacts temporarily correct my vision, and i couldn't be happier with them - after wearing them for ~8hrs during sleep, i get up to 48hours of perfect vision.
