My dad got my older sister the first season on DVD for Christmas but I never sat down to watch it with them.

To the OP, I'll add to the numbers recommending The Office.

well..with the direction Season 2 took with the hatch, and what they did in the final episodes... I was pretty much hooked on the idea of a science experiment. Have you seen Season 3? Just wait for all the new questions that pop up, especially in the second half. :p

I am obsessed with the show and know a lot of little intricacies of it. The great thing is, they string you along because they pop up 10 questions, answer two of them, and some of the new things that pop up completely destroy any ideas you had for the remaining questions. The show is a total mind fuck, ESPECIALLY when you get pretty devoted to the show and follow along with all the screen captures of assorted things (smoke monster screen caps, hatch map screen caps, joshua (watch season 3), newspaper clipping in season 3 finale). I hate how much the show screws with your mind, but I love it for that same very reason. And the fact that the show now has a definitive limit of remaining episodes (48, split over 3 seasons. How they are correcting for next season only having 8 episodes due to the writers strike, i don't know), makes me excited because a lot of crazy things are gonna probably happen.

And this is why I hate Lost. It's a fucking TV show. I hate when people get obsessed over it to the point that they try to find all these minor things to cling onto. I can't wait for the series to be over.

wait... why? Because people find reasons to become a fan of the show? Um... how is that different from any other major tv show? Mind you, I'm not obsessed, it's not like I'm a tv version of comic book guy on simpsons. :p

it's far from the only one that has a large following, it's just gets a lot of spotlight due to the type of show: on an island, very bright, helps keep people tuned in, believable characters that you actually feel develop over the series, the benefit of a tv series over a movie: almost always more believable characters on the really good tv shows. You have so much time you actually devote to your character, that it becomes another person.

I don't believe I was asking for your opinion, but..

k.. I think The Office is boring, trite, nauseating, takes itself too seriously, and to quote you.. "IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY"

You're right though, there are soooo many other shows that have 2 brothers living together with a kid that aren't afraid to make a few jokes about womanizing, alcohol abuse and farts. So don't even listen to me and the millions of others who make it the self-proclaimed #1 comedy on CBS.. it's unoriginal and unfunny, the KarmaPolice have spoken.

Trailer Park Boys

edit: shows i watch are Lost & Prison Break but i enjoyed the first seasons of each more than the newer ones.
lol, yeah that is definitely a good suggestion. I started watching Trailer Park Boys when I was going to school and my friend/roommate watched it but since I've graduated I haven't watched the show.

Guess I need to get on that. Bubbles ftw!

I love 'The Office'. I initially hated it but when you get into the characters, its actually pretty awesome. I ended up watching season 1, 2, 3 and all eight episodes of season 4 in a few days. I've tried to watch '2 and a half men' but the jokes seemed too juvenile and unfunny.

Despite the fact that 24 can be annoying with it's bad acting (god, will someone please kill off Kim Bauer for good), ridiculously stupid agents, and serious re-use of plot lines, it's still the most addictive and thrilling show on tv. If you haven't seen it, go rent season 1 and you'll probably be hooked. My wife and I started watching in late 2006 and went through the first 4 seasons in just a couple months. We watched season 5 as soon as it came out on DVD, then watched season 6 on TV.

Shortly after that, we started watching Lost and went through those pretty quickly too.

The only thing that sucks about watching shows like that on DVD is it spoils you. It makes it rather painful to have to wait a week between episodes when the new season is aired.

We just started watching Dexter a few days ago and we're through the first 8 episodes now. Great show. Very thought provoking.

yeah... I watched the first 5 seasons in 2 weeks... :Q

The shows are short though, only about 25 minutes without commercials... good for a laugh if you are into that type of humour... :D

I watched every Trailer Park Boys episodes within the past couple of years, but just in the past week I started again at episode 1 since I hadn't seem them in a while. I've been going through them quick. That show is without a doubt the most funny show I've watched.

I just watched the season 2 episode where Bubbles is rapping something like:

"... my rhyme skills will leave you struck, cause I roll with my kitties and I'm hard as fuck!"

Pretty much everything they say or do is funny as hell. I like how whenever Ricky pulls up to someone's trailer, he always blasts into garbage cans and shit.

Also recommend

24
The Unit
Lost

All great shows that have at least a couple of seasons so you can watch a lot before getting to the end (thanks to the stupid strike).

I can't wait for the new season of Chuck (thankfully they filmed a few episodes prior to the strike) and I have started watching the re-runs of The Big Bang Theory which I think are LOL funny.

Just found this:

NBC announced that it will broadcast what are likely the final two original first-season episodes of its hit SF series Chuck on Jan. 24 at 8 and 10 p.m., sandwiched around a new episode of The Celebrity Apprentice at 9.
