since I have no talent when it comes to graphics design, I'll put this out there for someone else if they so desire to do it. I was thinking of ways you could incorporate the DV Rebel into a motorcycle, particularly a chopper. The front forks could be film or something, I dunno.

As far as whats already been thrown out there, I like HajikuFlip's original the best myself.

Ick, squares are becoming quite the problem. Might need to just start from scratch, but here is a version that is just a tad better. If it gets picked, I'll go back and redo them manually to look just right.

Getting Closer...

Alright, adding another one. This one is quite simplistic, almost too simplistic for my tastes. Anyone else have anything to say in the way of questions, comments?

Revamped and colored

I like that one a lot. Nice work.

that one does rock, but it looks to complicated to be recognised as a vid overlay

That is true, however, knowing that he is using these as video overlays and such, that design was created with animation purposes in mind. That may be a little over-board for what he is looking for, but if he would ever like something created in AE or some other graphic-animation program, maybe we could work out a deal then also.

Okay, I'm out of the race...

Anyone that wants to implement what I have done into their design can feel free :)

The reason that I am out, it that many of the ideas are similiar in aspect to what I was thinking and I would not feel right, if I were to win, in utilizing styles or design aspects that were similar to those posted by others...

So far, the input of HajikuFlip peaks my interest the most... It is clean and from what I can ascertain he does appear to understand digital video aspects.

Also, HajikuFlip is showing the inverted aspect, which would be useful for print design... Black background is great for video, but you more than likely will want white for print publications.

Just a thought, probably a bad one, but if a standard logo in PSD format with layers was imported into something like Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premier, it could be animated to give it a little extra flash for the intro... You know, like the DV coming in from the back, or something to that effect...

Hey all,
Just checking in on the thread again, man are things heating up. I gotta tell you, right now, magnum, idnut, and hajiku's designs are my personal favorites. Also, they seem to be able to tinker with things really well and don't mind me asking for changes, which have really helped them develope things that appeal to me. OK, so here is the next step: Iwas showing my girlfriend the designs last night, and we pretty much agreed on which ones we liked best. However, she brought up the point that digital video is my medium, and most of the top choices contain film elements (film strip, slate borads, etc), and while they look awesome as logos in of themselves it is kind of hypocritical for me to use something like that. The reason for this being that 99% of the people I know that shoot on video call themselves "filmmakers", and my beef is that this seems really pretentious, and as if people don't want to admit they work on video or that film is somehow more superior and being a "filmmaker" is better. However, I work on both mediums, but video has become my new choice. I feel like I can do new things with it and push the boundaries of the medium by utilizing different elements inherent to video (as opposed to people always trying to make video look like film, I want to EXPLOIT video for what it is). I'll mention that I have also studied human psychology, sociology, philosophy and a variety of human sciences in order to make myself a better video artist, so this is something that is really important to me.

Hajiku: I like the tinkered/inverted ones that you put up. Along with my eplanation above, I was wondering if you could work more of a digital edge as opposed to film in it (i.e. instead of the filmstrip with dv in it, maybe a television or something). Also, I really wasn't considering an animated logo as simplicity is my thing (except when it comes to actual video). But with the mention of it, I thought your design would work awesome in that way. I'll send you a PM with some ideas to hash out.

Idnut: I like your latest entries, my only issue is that the slate looks a bit foggy. I can't really suggest any improvement beyond that, I think its going to come down to a vote of 3 or 4 logos that I like but simply have to choose between. As is, your logo is on that list.

Magnum: Man you are a workhorse! Thanks for doing all of those designs. As for the list with different selections I really like 1, 6 and 9. As you'll notice, I'm truely a fan of simplicity and those are the most straight edged things. The only thing I'm wondering is how the interior of that font would look fully red or switch up and make the exterior white and interior red. THis is really just my curiosity about it. To me, you designs are finalists.

Fallout: I like the design, but the fonts seem to be in conflict with one another, they appear to be a bit to different to flow well together, but double points for simplicity!!

ThePresence: I liked both of them, but the only thing that bothers me is that for whatever reason (I can't put a finger on it) they look like baseball team names to me. Again, not trying to insult, but the first thing I thought was how they would make terrific sports logos!!

BSmithy: I liked the first one the best, but I feel like that font for rebel doesn't really reflect my style as much, it seems more upbeat where as most of my videos are darker, noir types. The 4th entry was a really sweet idea, I don't think anything with a spraypaint type on it will have the flexibility that I need it to, but conceptually, that is one of my favorites overall so far.

OK, I guess that is all for now. I just want to note that I probably won't be as responsive to the thread as the work week starts up, so Iwill probably only comment specifically on logos that I feel are on point for me and just need some tweaking to fit my needs. Again, I have to say this is a blast so far, and I have been startled by the amount of creativity and talent around these boards (its day two, and I already have finalists!). I hope everybody is having fun with this, I know I am! And again, I do not mean to insult anyone by offering suggestions, I just have my own weird taste, so I figure it helps if I open my mouth so people know what I'm looking for. Thanks all!!

I'm still unsure of what kind of look you are going for.

ok try #2 worked on this last night beore I saw you didn't like my fonts but I thought I would post anyway. will post something else later as I look for some better fonts.
Rebel

Also just to let you know all logos are being done in Ilustrator so they can be enlarged as much as you like with no pixalization due to the fact thier vector based on pixil. .AI is the format right now but if you need to print it I can dump it out to a .eps so you could send it to a profesional printer. and depending on what program you use for video .ai can be imported directly into it. I work with premier for editing and after effects for compseting and effects and never had an issue with illustrator docs

I understand your point, my roomate is taking film theory and he says the same.

As far as the logo goes, I am using the top of the slate board in combination with the recognizable "DV" font to try and promote the idea of both of these different media combined, as you work with both.

Also, I'll just point out again that I am working with low resolution image right now, only 150dpi, so if it looks a bit grainy you know why.

oh one question also what font didn't you like? my idea currently is to find a basic block type font to replace the DV. I really like the font I came up with for rebel, it seems to have an edge to it, I don't know I'm not attached to it if you don't like it, so let me know.

ok few more for now and i'll stop till I get feedback
4 More

Personally my fav so far is the second row, not that that matters :D
and if you need help with getting an animated logo I would have no problem helping with that it would be a fun project compared to the mundane stuff I get to do at work :( But at least its in Video I guess

Hey fallout, its the font used for the word "rebel" that doesn't sit right with me....I guess I just want something a little more straightforward than that one....simplicity is best!

Anyone interested in offering a Cliff Notes version? Mikey?? I know you are out there somewhere and you tell it so well ;)

Okay, Magnum tells it well too ;)
