Well, I really dont think Acura competes in the luxury market. I would consider luxury market to be $50,000+ cars, and I think Acura only has one car that hits that mark, and it is in a class by itself.
Acura is more the upscale middle class Honda market. Everyone who bought a Honda and loved it, and now makes a little more money and wants a little nicer car, but loves the Honda feel.
The Acura RL is a $46,000 POS FWD 225HP slugboat 4-speed auto craptastic piece of metal. It's the "Buick" of Japanese luxury sedans
Well dammit, the Honda drivers are going to need something to drive after they retire.
That would be either a Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Audi, etcetc... not an Acura which is Forbes' point. Acura is the wussiest of the Japanese pseudo-brands anywho. The TL and CL are really both "Accords", RL is junk... NSX is retiring and actually pretty slow for such an expensive car from the factory, the RSX and upcoming TSX are both no more luxurious than an S2000 or an old Prelude.
But so long as Joe Consumer is duped into buying the superiority of the Acura brand... Honda will make money. And lots of people buy into the Acura brand now... my friend was so proud of his 260hp TL TypeS... till he rode in my $6k 7yr old POS.
