Logitech or Microsoft Optical Mouse?

<< Logitech.

The "lifetime" warranty arguments are really not applicable, since all the Logitech optical mice I've seen (and owned) have had 5-10 year warrantees. You don't need more than that.

Good point, the Logitech Dual Optical has a five-year warranty.

It depends on the size of your hands, but for me the Logitech Dual Optical mouse is the best gaming mouse ever as far as precision and weight go. I've used the lineup of Microsoft Optical mice, and they all feel bloated and cheap in comparison, plus the wheels on Microsoft Optical mice don't click very well, it's hard to be precise.

How are their policies though?

With microsoft, you can call them...tell them your mouse is broken, they ask for the serial number and your address and 3 days later a mouse is on your doorstep without sending an old one back or having a receipt. Does Logitech do this? If they do I might look into their mice.

Actually they do. I crushed my Logitech in a moving accident a year ago and all I had to do was call Logitech support, give them all my personal info, and a few days later they sent me a brand new mouse. Even though I had to send back my broken Logitech mouse, it didn't take me more than a few minutes to slip it in the mail.

Btw, Logitech Optical Mice are cheaper than MS Optical Mice in my past research, although I would have to do a search on Newegg and Pricewatch to say for sure.

EDIT: I did a search, and the cheapest MS Optical Mouse at Newegg is $34 bucks shipped. The cheapest Logitech Optical Mouse at Newegg is exactly half the price, at $17 bucks shipped. That's a lot of mula IMVHO.

MS........used the Logitechs for quite a while but the MS just fit my hand better and unlike some comments, I feel the MS's are more acurate for what I do........

I have 3 Microsoft opticals and have to say I despise the Intellipoint drivers. I can't tell you how many times it has either "forgotten" that my scroll button is assigned to "back". Either I have to change it back in the mouse options (easy enough), or it insists that it is already programmed to back and still brings up the scroll cursor when I press it. :| I'm thinking about going with Logitech just for better drivers.

I do have to agree, however, that the exchange is painless. I've had two Intellimouse Explorers go bad (only equipment on my computers to go bad, believe it or not), and they shipped replacements promptly.

Logitech, because you dont have to use the warranty, unlike the Microsoft Mice which brakes down every few months or so.

I'm going to have to go with the "feel them for yourself" folks.

Three things I make sure I just don't skimp on are the mouse, keyboard, and monitor since those are what you interface with the countless hours you are in front of your PC. As far as mice go, price wouldn't even be a consideration for me, unless it counted as a tiebreaking vote.

Between the $24.00 MICROSOFT WHEEL MOUSE OPTICAL and the $24.00 LOGITECH WHEEL MOUSE OPTICAL there is an appreciable difference? You must be talking about different higher end versions or something! If those are the choices, the MS has a $10.00 rebate right now and the "easy replacement warranty".

I might grab the Logitech Dual Optical for gaming if I were really fussy, but when I build mom & pop a PC, they automatically get an MS Optical mouse and MS Internet keyboard. Kinda goes with the OS and browser they automatically get!

Well then, I'm going to be ordering a Logitech Dual Optical mouse from EMS Computing soon. And yes I went to the store to check it out.

Thanks guys.

Logitech all the way! (Although I am not fond of the amount of memory Mouseware uses up. See comparison artile at FiringSquad.)

My ex-Uncle-in-law was a Microsoft guy all the way. Ended up replacing his MS Optical mouse two times before switching to a MS ball mouse. Wouldn't try Logitech.

Ornery, the Logitech mouse is still cheaper than the MS mouse, just look at the link from Newegg that I gave in my last post.

I bought the Logitech Dual Optical and I like it so far. It's my first optical and took me about 2 weeks to get use to it, but I love it now. 🙂
