Quick question, does the laser affect wood desks as optical mice do (you know when they kind of take the finish off the desk)? Thanks

From that site you gave:
I received mine from Newegg today and have yet to test battery length fully. No doubt it is longer than the MX700 and since it uses Lithium Ion for a power cell there is no ?memory effect? associated with nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride batteries. (Memory effect: partially discharging and recharging causes the battery to think that is its true life cycle for power.)
No need to change the batteries is the bottom line.

The screws for the mouse are under the teflon runners. the mouse can be taken apart for battery replacement!

Well, majority of the bad reviews site bad drivers, but this has always been a problem with logitech, their drivers always sucked so this is nothing new.

Proprietary batteries suck period. Apple is laughing all the way to the bank with iPod battery sales. Clearly they knew what they were doing when designing these players. Litihium ion battries are not cheap, you will probably be able to buy another MX1000 for the cost of the battery alone, or they will probably find the price point where the battery will just be affordable enough. It is win-win for them. I like my MX700 with 2200maH batteries. Lasts long and they do not have a bad memory effect, I've had the same batteries inside for a year with no noticeable degradation to the batteries. NiCad batteries are the ones to stay far away from. I steered clear of the iPod's in favor of an iRiver 195TC flash player. Although I realize the laser mouse requires a powerful battery compared to a conventional optical mouse, I don't think the MX-1000 is in my future although I am a big fan of logitech (except for that miserable F-Lock fiasco). No mechanical parts and no proprietary batteries. That is the direction I go for whenever possible........
