Cool stuff, would be awesome for HTPC, streaming type devices, notebooks. Wonder if Apple would ever use AMD...
It gets them things like Thunderbolt early and I'm sure other perks as well.
We all know what kind of 'perks' manufacturers receive for staying Intel-exclusive.
I thought that practice was phased out as one of the agreements of the latest round of billion-dollar settlements?
I always wondered what kind of 'perks' McDonalds received for staying Coke-exclusive.

And likewise the industry, and to a more limited extent consumers, have had and still have the choice to go with PowerPC, ARM, MIPS or SPARC instead of x86 processors primarily from Intel. There is a licensing agreement with AMD and there have undoubtedly been some unlawful practices, but let's not forget that Intel created the x86 architecture and basically owns it just like ARM Holdings owns the rights to ARM and IBM owns the Power architectures and they have every right to dictate the terms of sales of x86 processors within legal bounds.Well for one thing it' legal. And for another, consumers have the choice to go to quiznos, panera bread, panda express, taco bell, KFC, pizza hut, long john silvers, fuddruckers, BJ's, little caesars, etc. etc., if they don't like coke.
I think the bolded part of your question answers your question.
Coke-exclusive franchisees get free syrup, plain and simple. That's a decades-old strategy that is legal in the United States. It's not at all similar to what Intel's done in the past.

Using a food analogy, why go with AMD (Mcdonald's) when for just a tad more you can go to a steakhouse?
Yes they will both accomplish the same thing by filling you up, but one is just oh so much better...
Maybe I DON"T UNDERSTAND WHATS BEING SAID HERE . OR Someone doesn't . I didn't no Apple OS = TO MS OS. The agreement that was reached . Was with X86 on MS. Windows . I was unaware that Apple was a monoply using x86 . Know as Apple gains market share in phones and tablets . They may become a monoply using ARM devices.
Than we just jumped over the fact that Intel Apple announced publicly that it was a joint venture were thunderbolt is concerned. I may have that wrong .

Yes we do . Dell is a good example . When intel exclusive they were the number 1 maker of PC's until they let AMD into the game . How the mighty have fallen.

Apple is Intel exclusive down to tablets . So how has Apple done in the market since they went intel . Expanding or contracting? Intel the empire builder . AMD the destroyer of empires.
Link to 5 billion dollar bribe or it didn't happen. Intel would have been smarter to pay AMD not to make cpus . That would have made more profits for both companies. Can't wait to see how AMDs gate first works out. Intel wouldn't go there.
The payments totaled $4.3 billion between 2003 and 2006
This is so abysmally stupid and simple-minded it's not even worth a reply. You're either a troll or borderline retarded. From the way you write, I'm guessing the latter.
Look, I know you're a pretty rabid Intel fanboy, but come on, this was big news.

Oh, sorry, it was $4.3 billion, but that was just 2003-2006, and there was evidence of Intel paying other companies as well.
