Liquor for that end of the day drink?

I like to have a selection of independent bottlings of scotch and rum on hand. As well as official bottlings from the same distilleries. I find that independent bottlings are more "authentic" with no chill filtering, no added colouring etc. But I am a piss head so...your mileage may vary.

Not sure if the cure is any better than the disease in this case, TBH. I say keep on smoking up.

I actually agree with you (that long term, vaping is preferable to drinking), but I've been feeling cloudy and just blah lately and had that realization that i've been smoking daily for nearly 5 years - at least a break is in order.

Indeed - adhd, general anxiety disorder, and social anxiety - was medicated for years and the side effects (weight gain, a state of mental fuzziness that bordered on depressing, etc) made me switch to self medicating. My ambition level was also way down when on my meds, it's like I was ok with just "being." Does that make sense? I feel like I was getting to that point with weed too, hence the vacation. Honestly, it was better to be "high" at the end of the day when I wanted to instead of feeling meh all day.. But I completely accept that it's a crutch and am trying every hippy dippy thing from meditation to herbal tea in the meantime (the white noise generator helped, got 6 hours instead of the 3-4 hours I was getting detoxing. I figure a shot when I absolutely can't chill is better than sleeping pills

You pay for the skill of the brewer, the distiller, the cooper, the barrel selector, and the blender, as well as absorbing 2% loss annually as the spirits age. All using specialized gear that's expensive to maintain.

The other day I was drinking my morning coffee at my computer and had to leave suddenly. That night, when I came home, I poured myself a finger of very nice scotch over ice and sat down again to relax and catch up on the day's news.

Not long after I started to notice this wonderful smell: my half empty coffee cup was still sitting there and the coffee smell was combining with the scotch aroma into some unbelievable mixture. Its one of the best alcohol related odors I've ever experienced.

I was almost tempted right then and there to make a cup of coffee and pour the scotch in it. Seems like a perfect end of the day combo.

The grapes for wine must grown and then squeezed, fermented, blended, aged in barrels [sometimes for a very long time]
For the most part beer requires more effort.

all whiskey starts life as beer. Might not be the best tasting beer cause that's not the purpose, but it's brewed.

They're liquors, but not liqueurs. Liqueurs can be hit or miss. They may be carefully crafted, or they may be the cheapest grain alcohol available with some artificial flavoring added. I'm not a big fan of liqueurs, and I'm not qualified to comment much on them. Akavit, ouzo, and absinthe would be in the liqueur category I believe, and I like like all three, but I'm not that knowledgeable about them.

Crown Royal is smooth. I rotate between scotch, bourbon, Irish, Canadian and vodka.

I find Gibsons 12 year is a good balance between quality and price.

I drink 8-12 Oz of it every friday night on ice, no mix.
