Liquor for that end of the day drink?

Admitted neanderthal when it comes to drinking, beyond vodka crans and stella's I"m fairly clueless (and I have lame taste - I much prefer a nice cider to one of those fancy and bitter microbrews)... I'd like to take the next baby step toward being less of a slacker by giving up my daily pot habit - I'm not talking wu tang levels, I've calculated it to about $7 a day, less than than the deadlier pack a day cig smoking habit it replaced. It's decrimalized and I"m not coming from a moralistic point of view, but I just feel like I'm too old for this shit but do have some serious end of day anxiety that the pot helps me deal with. I'm guessing my first week off will be difficult and I'm not opposed to a temporary crutch - what's a good sipping liquor to help with that end of day calming ritual? I don't really enjoy a beer anymore, the taste doesn't do it and I rarely get through half a bottle

I'd prefer something that doesn't have to be mixed. My BIL shared a persian made whiskey with me years ago that was wonderfully warm and lush, but neither of us remember the name. I know I shouldn't be dealing with anxiety with alcohol, no lectures please

Jameson is pretty smooth and easy-drinking.

Not sure if the cure is any better than the disease in this case, TBH. I say keep on smoking up.

The king of commercially-available drinks is Ardbeg Corryvrekan.

There's better stuff, if you look for "cask strength" but it's more expensive and often not easy to find. And due to the nature of cask drinks, not a standardized flavor, so two bottles of the same could taste different.

Jameson... D^:

Irish is good, but I don't know about Jameson. Black Bush would be a good introduction. I've had a couple glasses of brandy today. Cognac for all intents and purposes, but since it's from Germany, it can't be cognac. Scotch... Famous Grouse is a nice budget blend. Macallan for an approachable introduction to single malt.

They have apple brandy.

Cognac is nice because of the digestif qualities. Maybe get literally any of them other than Hennessy because of the popularity premium right now.

Maybe get Don Q Anejo. You're getting the price arbitrage from Puerto rico but still getting a 3-10 year aged spirit.

Stick to kentucy whiskey IMO why bother paying so much to import aged spirits when when the US has some of the best right here. Get like a fancy Evan Williams variety or Makers mark.

Looks interesting to me. I love collecting interesting whiskeys and such.

I'm currently struggling through a bottle of Four Roses small batch. It's /ok/, but something about it just doesn't agree with me. I always thought Old Forester was an under appreciated bourbon at a decent price. Knob Creek is pretty tasty too.

I always found Four Roses small batch to be pretty meh. Prefer their single barrel program at 100 proof though depending on the makeup of the barrel they can have wildly different flavors.

Gentleman Jack is a mellow whiskey that appeals to people that don't drink a lot of whiskey. I like the ritual of drinking whiskey when I get off work. I like the smell and the sound the the ice makes when hitting the sides of the glass. It's relaxing. Sometimes I only pour enough to get my mouth wet.

Depends on the day
Campari is always good
Sometimes Ouzo
Sometimes Beer
On a hot summer day, Limoncello is hard to beat
The wife prefers some Luxardo Amaretto on the rocks

Sometimes Ouzo
I've been drinking ouzo for a couple years, but this year just discovered the delight of mixing it way down with cold water. Makes a refreshing summer drink. It's also good on ice cream :^)

Go to a liquor store and buy a bunch of those travel-size single drink mini-bottles and see what you like.
I can recommend you try some disaronno or gran marnier. They are smooth, easy drinking and beautiful liquors. Both are great mixed or straight.

If you like Disaronno, try Luxardo Amaretto. It is awesome! (You will think I am talking BS, but, honestly, it is much better than Disaronno.)
Also, Luxardo makes the best Limoncello of the varieties I've tried.

I love my beer. But if I had to have a mix drink, it would be a gin & tonic. Very refreshing.

Ohh yea, one other drink, kinda refreshing, Linie Aquavit, not my usual day to day drink, but, a little bit of this with some ice can be nice.

Keep it simple.
Fuckin a cold beer.

Nothing simple about fuckin a beer man.

If you have a Costco around there is a Kirkland XO Cognac that is super drinkable for under $50 a bottle.

Dont drink Alcohol anymore more maybe an occasional wine out at dinner. But for me now I'm having some Kratom tea.

When I did drink it was a black or white Russian, one every night for years. Black more for summer white more during winter.
