and again - what was the intent of the ad?
To inform viewers that Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners.

How is that relevant to this topic?

Oh, it's not, it's a DUH-version. Please stop posting.

its a lie of omission. Its a very simple concept too.

its interesting how you seem to think its appropriate to teach kindergartners about things they shouldnt be learning about. You obviously think this is the case, otherwise you wouldn't have a problem with the bill as its written.

Because Obama want's kindergartners in orgies? Hardly. The ad is not quite truthful. It's distorting context, just like every other political ad out there.

Something that it seems just a few select simpleminded individuals can't grasp.

You mean like how you're faulting one side in this thread here while apologizing for the other? Or like how you're completely oblivious of that... as usual?

The biggest irony is that you came into this thread complaining about that very behavior, and then jumped right in the deep end of it.

good to see you're blatant inability to read all replies or slant those you read for your personal pleasure continued.

Which is why you right into defending McCain's ads, right? Get over yourself.

Let me know when Obama's ads spread filthy lies directly against McCain, instead of just a jab at some overrated talk radio host.

Newsflash: Politicians stretch the truth and use soundbites and edited quotes in commercials.

And who really cares what Rush Limbaugh says?
It is not about what Rush said.

It is about Obama taking what Rush said and twisting it to mean something completely different then trying to tie it all to McCain.
Actually, I would argue that the only fault in the ad is the attempt to tie it to McCain. I can't fault Obama for giving Limbaugh a taste of his own medicine, especially with Rush so butthurt about it. Well played there.
What the ad says:
??stupid and unskilled Mexicans?
?Rush Limbaugh

"You shut your mouth or you get out!?
?Rush Limbaugh

What Rush actually said:
Railing against NAFTA in 1993, Limbaugh said,
"If you are unskilled and uneducated, your job is going south. Skilled workers, educated people are going to do fine 'cause those are the kinds of jobs NAFTA is going to create. If we are going to start rewarding no skills and stupid people, I'm serious, let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do -- let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work."

?Everybody's making immigration proposals these days. Let me add mine to the mix. Call it The Limbaugh Laws:

?First: If you immigrate to our country, you have to speak the native language. You have to be a professional or an investor; no unskilled workers allowed. Also, there will be no special bilingual programs in the schools with the Limbaugh Laws. No special ballots for elections. No government business will be conducted in your language. Foreigners will not have the right to vote or hold political office.

?If you're in our country, you cannot be a burden to taxpayers. You are not entitled to welfare, food stamps, or other government goodies. You can come if you invest here: an amount equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage. If not, stay home. But if you want to buy land, it'll be restricted. No waterfront, for instance. As a foreigner, you must relinquish individual rights to the property.

?And another thing: You don't have the right to protest. You're allowed no demonstrations, no foreign flag waving, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our President or his policies. You're a foreigner: shut your mouth or get out! And if you come here illegally, you're going to jail.

?You think the Limbaugh Laws are harsh? Well, every one of the laws I just mentioned are actual laws of Mexico today! That' how the Mexican government handles immigrants to their country. Yet Mexicans come here illegally and protest in our streets!

?How do you say ?double standard? in Spanish? How about: ?No mas!??
So Vic, after reading the whole context of what Rush said are you still going to support what Obama's ad said?

And if it is okay for Obama to lie and twist the words of Rush is it then okay for McCain to lie and twist the words of Rev Wright?

The ad lies. It's already been debunked.

"'Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners,'" said Obama
You don't accept Obama's own words?

What do you feel was the point of the ad?
That Barack Obama supports teaching sex education to kindergarteners.

Drop it already... it was age appropriate sex ed and it was taken WAY out of context and has been totally debunked. Even McCain said he knows Obama wouldnt do that. stop repeating yourself and open your eyes man.

There are a couple of lies here

Lie #1 are quoting BHO but you are assigning his words to his sentiment when it fact he was mimmicking Alan Keyes and quoting something Alan Keyes would say about BHO.

taking his quote out of context. And you did so knowingly. That means you weren't mistaken, you are lying.

pathetic and very very transparent. OH and did I mention this is an OLD smear too?

He already answered that question. It was a deliberate error of omission specifically designed to generate the wrong impression. Believe it or not, that is the same as lying.

Now take it to PM or start a new thread, eh?

tissue?

And I don't recall defending the ad. I do recall stating the "fact check" is in error as it uses assumptions which can not possible be read directly from the actual bill as written and discussed that the legislation was defeated for those very reasons. The ad is using this same lack of context for political gains, which we also discussed The ad is not quite truthful. It's distorting context, just like every other political ad out there.

because it is a lie of ommision

Obama supports teaching age and developmentally appropriate sex education to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Funny how the ad leaves out the "age and developmentally appropriate" part of the definition of sex education.

The sex education is also developed and established by teachers that have the tools and the knowledge to create "appropriate" curriculum. A

if you put 100 teachers, parents, and other educators in a room, I am willing to bet a majority of them would agree that teaching sex education that covers appropriate subjects (such as stranger danger etc) would be a good idea to kindergarteners

what you WONT get is 100 people agreeing to teach 5 year olds about intercourse and STDs.

if you think thats the case, then you dont understand how to appropriately teach children.

Edit: if you notice how butterbean stopped posting defending the ad in this thread? its because he has been thoroughly owned on this subject time and time again, saying much of the same obnoxious and debunked crap you are saying now.

so just stop, you are embarassing yourself much the same Butterbean does in every thread he posts in.

Sinsear said that, not you, lupi.

My point is that a different ad is the subject of this thread.

edit: or should I bring up Gordon Smith's outrageous ads in his incumbent Senatorial run against Jeff Merckley? That would be just as off-topic. Yaknow, I was actually undecided and leaning Smith (I voted for him both times he ran for Senate in the past), but these recent ads actually have turned me against him. We're not used to Rovian tactics here in innocent and naive little Oregon, and I'd rather we never did get used to them.

So will you now condemn Obama for taking Limbaugh's words out of context? Charlie Gibson for taking Sarah Palin's words out of context? Obama for for taking McCain's quote about 100 years in Iraq out of context?

There is nothing "funny" about it. To many households there is no "age appropriate" comprehensive sex education course for a kindergarden student, again which is why the legislation was defeated.

Listen carefully I will explain it one last time. read carefully there are differnt words in my next sentence that are used to explain what myself and the others are talking about. I will bold those words this time so you don't miss them again.

Obama supports teaching age appropriate sex education to kindergarteners and making them aware of sexual predators

Does that make sense? Do we need to slow it down and explain it again for you? Can you understand the difference? did you graduate High school?

Im having trouble following your logic, but I have a feeling I agree with you ultimately.

because I feel that no one should be teaching my children anything about sex, thats my job.

But...thats not really the issue here is it?
