Lifeguards making over 200K in the OC

The article stated that the "two highest paid" collected over $200k, which probably were the managers of the dept. At that experience level and being in SoCal, that sounds about right.

This. It wouldn't be hard to believe that two people that run an organization that has over 200 employees (when you count all the full time and part time positions) can earn over $200k after you account for benefits.

If you're going to try to demean a profession, you should pick one which doesn't involve saving drowning people.

exactly.

on Nov. 22, 2010, that was the biggest wave day of the 2002-2003 season in So Cal.

i went out (for fun), first at Torrey Pines ... where i got caught in a rip-tide. that took an hour to get out of.

then i went to Del Mar. the waves were a little smaller ... waves were coming from the Northwest, so, shadowed a little bit by So Cal islands.

by the time i got outside, i was a 1/2 mile down the beach ... but at least i wasn't caught in a rip ! 😀 just a strong north-to-south current, which is normal when larger waves come from the Northwest.

i spent the next hour swimming North, to get back to where i started. that was a wonderful hour, because there were huge waves (for So Cal) rolling through every 17 seconds.

once i got back to my starting spot, i decided that it was time for FOOOOOOOOOD, and swam back to the beach.

OK, this is where it's about lifeguards. the lifeguard was standing there, all wet. he said, "man, you got major sack !"

i said, "what is sack ?"

he didn't exactly explain.

but, he told me that his job was to keep me in sight, and that when he lost sight of me, he - according to his job description - had to go in the water just to keep an eye on me. he still couldn't see me, so he got out of the water, satisfied that he had acted according to the "Lifeguard Handbook" or whatever they use.

so that's what a lifeguard's life is like in the winter. there was only 1 person in the water that day, and the lifeguard had to watch him.

Thank you, Del Mar taxpayers !

it's not all staring at teenagers in bikini's, and telling people they can't drink. it can be a demanding job.

Lifeguarding at a busy area is extremely stressful sice parents rarely watch their kids or are even there. I got paid $8.50 an hour to lifeguard in the 90s and our managers then made i think $12 an hour.

This was at an overcrowded public pool, i never had to do cpr but all 6-10 guards on duty would have to jump in at least 2-3 times a day to save usually children under 8 years from drowning.

Depending on where you are its not relaxing at all

Im sure the $200k is a fluke

ca = fail

thank you jerry brown for destroying this once great state.

Quoted for stupid.

This is a TOWNS employees and pay set by them. It has nothing to do with Brown who was not even Gov when the pay was set.
But like most nutters why let facts get in the way.
