While pedestrians have the right of way in a crosswalk, it is just common sense to at least glance in the direction of on coming traffic to see if a car is coming. I guess one could see this a "blind" faith drivers will stop, a practice where you might end up "dead" wrong.I love how she just keeps walking as if that happens to her all the time.

If by slowed down you mean stopped, I concur. The Diver should have slowed down.
The Diver should have slowed down.
In MD its the law if someone is at a crosswalk you have to stop.
I acknowledged that when I said the pedestrian had the right of way..... however it is STUPID to not look for on coming cars that can fuck up your day/life.The Diver should have slowed down.
*_at_* or *_in_* the crosswalk? NC laws states the pedestrian "within" the crosswalk has the right of way. Standing on the sidewalk/shoulder waiting to cross doe NOT give the pedestrian the right of way.In MD its the law if someone is at a crosswalk you have to stop.
same goes for red lights, too. It doesn't stop some people from running them though. In MD its the law if someone is at a crosswalk you have to stop.
I was crossing Artesia Blvd after the 91 freeway ends on it in Gardena Calif. (my brother worked there). I had hit the walk button to cross the six-lane street with a wide center divider in my manual wheelchair. You had to go quickly to make it across in time, but a lady in a Mercedes SUV started turning right, which would have blocked the crosswalk, so I waited. She stopped short when she saw me, but seconds had been shaved, so I booked it across the boulevard with all the cars stopped waiting on little old me. As I neared the center divider, a Camry came zooming down it about five feet in front of me, I felt its wind. He apparently didn't realize that the freeway had ended despite the many giant warning signs, flashing lights, and stoplights. Had it not been for that impatient lady in the Mercedes, I would not be typing this now.![]()

It is common sense that one should look when crossing a street, yet beyond the grasp of some that seem to think a law is going to prevent them from becoming road kill.Well yes but that doesn't mean you shouldn't look. I got hit by a driver at a cross walk where I had the right of way. Me being in the right didn't make getting hit by a car hurt less. I was just lucky they weren't going very fast.
