I have '07 Velocity Yellow C6 1LT 6-speed auto with around 6,700 miles. I bought it new back in Feb '07. I wanted Z06 but I wasn't willing to pay sticker and didn't think it was worth $30k over the base model. I replaced the stock base sway bars with Z51 and added HUD since that's really the only thing I wanted from the 3LT package.

I don't drive it much, but I do enjoy it when I take it out. It's very comfortable car and rides extremely smooth, some would say too comfortable for a sports car. There's a reason old people with bad backs, hips, and knees own Corvette. Wife and I love the targa top. While it's not the same and nice as a convertible, it gives you the open air and freedom you can't get otherwise. My last two sports car were convertibles and Corvette targa top is a nice compromise. I chose the solid color top since I think it looks better on VY but you can buy separate transparent top for about $1,100. Some people own both and swap out depending on mood and weather. Transparent top is great in the winter time but you probably want to stick with the color top during the hot summer months. Top is pretty light and taking it off and putting it back on is one person job.

Corvette has large cargo room in the back due to the hatch design. It comes in handy during Costco runs. You lose most of your storage space if you take off the top so you have to pack light if you plan to drive with the top off.

Highway gas mileage is great but gas mileage doesn't matter to us since we drive it so little. I average about 20mpg mixed driving, and I fill it up 3-4 times a year.

I have a 2008 3lt coupe and its probably the best price to performance ratio you will find in a sports car. Plenty fast, lots of fun and just a beast.

This was mine that I had for a year:

IMO, the Corvette makes a great DD if you don't need more than two seats. That was one of my few complaints with the car. I averaged 16mpg in my daily commute. That's compared to 18mpg in my 3.6DI CTS and 13mpg in my CTS-V. On road trips and highway driving I was around 26mpg consistent. The Grand Sport model did have some odd road manors with the wide rear tires and hydroplaned all the time. Typical problem with wide tires and a light car. Overall, the ride itself was not harsh especially compared to other sports cars that I've experienced. Also, this car was a 2010 purchased new for $51k and then sold in Feb 2011 for $45k.

The battery drain is one of the bigger issues. Basically, the Corvette has a higher than normal draw from the electronics and they typically drain a battery if not left on a charger or driven every few days. I know mine was dead after a 10 day vacation.

Let me know if you have any other questions as I spent a lot of time following the Vette, owned one and still keep up.

I never experienced the battery drain. I've gone over a month many times without driving and never had an issue with the battery. I don't keep mine on the charger.

He's right about the gas mileage being a factor if you DD. My goat gets about 16mpg and I daily drive it. With a fill up costing me about $65 a tank for premium and I fill up once a week that's $3,400 a year. Compare that to my wife's Hyundai which gets like 25-26mpg. She's got a 12 gallon tank and it takes regular. She's spends about half that on fuel in a year. Our commutes are equal and we actually drive her car a little more than mine because the gas is cheaper.

So over the course of 5 years, that's $8,500. It adds up. However, I gladly pay it because I love being able to put my foot down and get thrown back in the seat. I look at it as tax for the cars bad assery.

The numbers add up but $8500 over 5 years shouldn't mean crap to someone buying a $40k+ sports car. If that kind of money matters to you, then you probably wouldn't be too happy with the regular maintenance costs and as mentioned before, TIRES.

When I was looking at Boxsters, the rear tires were said to last something like 10k miles and a decent set was not cheap.

Granted it all factors in, but $40k for a sports car is not huge money for cars these days. You'll spend more than that buying a new full size SUV.

I think the point people were trying to make is that the 2-3mpg difference in mixed driving he would see between the GT500 and Corvette (which both require premium), is negligible.

In your case its a 10mpg difference + the difference in regular vs premium. Not exactly comparable.

Anyone have a general idea what kind of MPG the GT500 pulls with a mix of city/highway? Fueleconomy.com lists 14/20 for the GT500 compared to 16/26 for the Vette.

With my 85% of my daily driving on the Interstate the vette just looks like the better overall choice.

From what I've read over at the Vette forum, it's pretty easy to get 27-29mpg on the highway if you exercise some self-control (hard to do sometimes in a sports car). Around town I hear more like 12-15mpg.

Like I stated earlier, the difference between my CTS-V and Grand Sport was 13mpg vs 16mpg in stop and go traffic. I would think those would be very comparable between a GT500 and '08 Vette. Going by 12,000 miles a year and $4/gallon premium, that's about $700 difference in gas a year.

In my '08 Z06 I average around 20 or so.

It's actually not that much worse mileage wise than my Miata in day-to-day driving.

I find that hard to believe, having had a Z06 and Miata myself. What do you average in your Miata?

Average around town, also premium, in the mid 20s...usually 23-25. Which actually falls right in line with EPA estimates, and the majority of owners on Miata.net

Only problem is that im thinking ahead as well. Not just taking 4 dollar premium into consideration but 5 dollar premium as well.

Just because someone can afford a 40K vehicle doesn't mean he should not care about fuel economy

After looking around i've pretty much decided to go with the Corvette above. It's an Auto which is dreadful but it's an LS3 and the only one within 100 miles thats decently priced and an LS3. After an hour speaking with the owner lastnight i'm getting it for 34,999 + TTL which IMO is an amazing deal for a 3K mile C6

If someone has a C6, I'm dying to see this work:

Reportedly, you can go from 0-110mph in 3rd gear because of the massive torque in these cars. Someone film themselves doing it and post it (in a safe location).

My Dodge Omni can do 3rd gear start with a worn out 120k engine. (did that by mistake on the first day)

I would not do that. Wait to get the car you want, i.e. manual. You can be patient, there's always going to be more of those cars available.

No, because it's not what you actually want, which is a manual.

It's an Auto which is dreadful
Like the member above said, learn to have patience and wait until a good deal for a manual pops up. Otherwise, you'll be back here whining about how much it sucks because it's not a real 'Vette.

Pretty impressive that you can average 20mpg with the Z06 on the same route.
